Creating Lifelong Learners

Tamariki natural curiosity is the foundation for exploration and growth. They explore to make sense of the world, develop and have fun. Tamariki start their lives by exploring the world around them. They learn through everything they see, touch, hear, smell, taste and do.

Through play, nga tamariki engage in active learning and exploration. They learn more about their interests and about the world. Most importantly, they learn how to adapt to a changing world. Play helps us remain creative and provokes our imagination.

Our People

Our team at Kids at Home is a dedicated team of individuals who have been chosen for their commitment to provide quality, educational in-home childcare. Kids at Home’s management team also consists of experienced Early childhood professionals and others who have worked within other roles in ECE for many years. We are proud of our positive workplace culture which can be felt as soon as you walk through our office doors!

Playgroups

Playgroup provides your child with a rich learning setting that encourages your child to build a foundation for future learning. Our groups provide your child with the opportunity to mix and make lifelong friends with other tamariki

Music Groups

Music groups provide your child the opportunity to participate in singing, dancing and experiment with musical instruments.

Music is an important part of any child care program. Listening to music, singing, playing musical instruments, and moving to music are all activities that support tamariki development.

Outings and Excursions

Visiting Teachers plan trips to events or places of interest in the community such as fire stations, the zoo, museum, parks etc. (Whanau and friends are welcome to attend).

High Standard of Care

Our Teachers and Educators pride themselves on the quality of care and education each child receives.

We do not limit ourselves to one teaching method or philosophy because we understand that your child is unique. We believe that each child has their own learning style and personality.

Kids at Home’s Visiting Teachers are fully qualified and certificated ECE Teachers with a current practicing certificate from the Teaching Council; our handpicked Teachers have many years of experience and expertise between them.

Kids at Home’s Visiting Teachers support Educators with regular visits and planning for education and development of tamariki.

Kowhai Tui Childcare

Welcome to Kowhai Childcare – a homely environment where children are educated using the Waldorf/Steiner Philosophy.

Our childcare centre focuses on meaningful learning experiences in a nurturing, caring environment where children can feel safe and loved. Our aim is to carefully foster and protect the physical, emotional, social and spiritual nature of each child, which allows them to unfold at their own pace in a healthy way.

Our Philosophy

Waldorf Education is the fastest growing alternative education system in the world. Beginning nearly a century ago in 1919, the Steiner Waldorf curriculum is designed to work in harmony with the different phases of each child’s development.

Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner founded the first Waldorf School in Stuttgart, Germany in 1919. Steiner believed that schools should address the needs of children rather than the needs of the government or economic forces. So he developed schools that encourage creativity and free thinking.

Waikato Waldorf School was founded by a group of passionate individuals in 1996 and has grown over the years with Kowhai Childcare being built in 2006.

Waldorf Early Childhood Education is delivered in an atmosphere of love and warmth, gratitude, reverence and wonder. It is an education where young children can learn through healthy play and through imitation. Children absorb everything that happens around them. Therefore great importance is placed on the role of the adult in our centres. We nurture children’s holistic development and emphasize a non-academic approach during the first seven years. We protect the forces of childhood by respecting the need for children to engage in a process of experiential learning. Children learn through, free movement, self-directed play, and natural exploration. This builds a solid foundation for healthy cognitive and physical development.

Littlelees Preschool

LittleLees PreSchool is a fully licensed Childcare Centre, located in Rototuna, Hamilton, that is focused on the well-being and holistic development of children. We provide a warm and nurturing environment for children to be themselves, learn and discover who they are, and how they want to interact with the world and the people around them.

Our primary focus is to build a close and nurturing relationship with each individual child. Because we recognize that children's learning and development is enhanced when they have a loving and secure foundation to explore from.

Providing them with this reassurance gives them the freedom to learn and grow as inquisitive learners, active explorers, competent leaders, problem solvers and confident members of our society.

At our Centre we appreciate the unique bi-cultural heritage of our country and our multicultural community. We agree with and follow the early childcare curriculum Te Whaariki and the Treaty of Waitangi, and support the diversity of language. Here we celebrate our diversity within our Centre and wider community.

Miro House Kindergarten

Miro House Kindergarten provides a warm and secure homelike environment where childhood is honoured and children are given the gift of time. Within this environment the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual nature of each child is carefully nurtured.

We aim to develop children’s early learning naturally, and we do this very purposefully through daily activities that are offered in the kindergarten. This is done via many avenues both inside and outside, each with an impulse and purpose aligned to the developmental stages of the child.

Play is considered to offer rich and productive learning opportunities for children to experiment and develop in the social, intellectual and physical realms. The opportunities for learning provided by play are highly valued in the Miro House programmes.

The chance to initiate, plan, reason, create, problem-solve, negotiate, take on roles, predict, experiment, draw conclusions and develop working theories are all facilitated through play. The careful selection of quality play materials, gathered from the garden, forest and sea further enhance play through actively supporting the imagination.
