Amidst the sounds of bird life and insect life we hear the sounds of children and teachers engaging in ‘finding out about their world’.

You will see children engaged in feeding their leftovers to the wormery, to the hens and to the newly hatched baby chicks. You will see children collecting eggs for their baking, grinding grains for homemade bread or spreading homemade jam on their toast.

You will see children participating in active play with sports equipment, sand-house and flowing water feature; developing important physical and social skills.

Children are empowered to resolve differences with teachers alongside them.

You will see teachers and children gathering for their small whanau group meeting. Storytelling and conversation is an important part of this time.

You will see value given to the dual heritage of Aotearoa. You will see creativity in all aspects of the learning programme – visual arts, dance, music, clay modelling, papermaking and concrete making. You will see children and teachers involved together in researching ideas, and asking questions. It is within these experiences that teachers promote the literacy/language learning and the mathematical/scientific learning.

You will see parents and grandparents calling in to share the learning with their child. Family barbeques are a regular feature of the Lucknow community calendar. You will see teachers and children taking photographs and movies of the learning. Every child has their own Portfolio of Learning, and an Individual Plan on file.

Busy Bees Te Mata

At Busy Bees Te Mata we are not just an ordinary early learning centre. Our unique, nature-based, holistic approach to education provides a truly remarkable experience for our children and families. We would be delighted to share in your child’s learning journey. You’re welcome to call or visit anytime.

We are open 7.30am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday.

Environment

At Busy Bees Te Mata we are not just an ordinary early learning centre. Our unique, nature-based, holistic approach to education provides a truly remarkable experience for our children and families. We become an extension of your whānau and pride ourselves on the relationships we form with families, working in partnership with parents and whānau regarding all aspects of children’s learning, interests, goals and development. Nestled in the beautiful countryside of Havelock North our approach to learning provides meaningful moments year-round. The natural environment of Busy Bees Te Mata allows children to spontaneously connect with Papatūānku right here in our own outdoor space. Tamariki take on the role of Kaitiakitanga, through this they learn various concepts like garden to table and sustainability.

Philosophy

At Busy Bees Te Mata whānaungatanga is the thread that weaves us together, these relationships help children reach their full potential. Each tamaiti is unique, and we celebrate what they bring with them and embrace different cultures into centre life.

Our Rooms

Rāpeti Room (up to 2 years)

We are committed to the wellbeing of your pēpi and foster a sense of home right at our centre. Teachers utilise āmiki (story telling), waiata (singing), kanikani (dancing), taiao (nature) whilst maintaining a focus on the aroha and care that infants need to thrive. Communicating with you every step of the way, we take special care to ensure your pēpi has a safe, secure and encouraging environment for their growth and development.

Pūkeko Room (2-6 years)

We know big changes happen during this time like increased independence and more curious questions. Our kaiako welcome each child with open arms and patience. We expose children to abundant learning opportunities involving nature, literacy, numeracy, emotional development, confidence-building, social engagement and more.

Our tamariki thrive on using their imagination as they become explorers in their own environment, doing this means they are encouraged to investigate and learn names of animals, insects, plants, and their purposes on our earth. Tamariki are encouraged to learn with and alongside others. Our older tamariki awhi our younger tamariki guiding and supporting them throughout their day (tuākana tēina - the older helping the younger).

Passionate Kaiako

Our biggest strength is our teachers, their manaaki and genuine care of tamariki. Our kaiako have a wide range of experience, and all share a passion for early learning education and care. They have professional knowledge of teaching and child development and nurture holistically, so that children leave Busy Bees Te Mata with a love of learning, a sense of wonder and a strong sense of self.

Transition to Kura
The concept of "school readiness" for children in their early years, is an integral part of our curriculum and programme at Busy Bees Te Mata. Our kaiako are passionate about weaving this learning experience for children throughout their entire journey with us at our centre. This means that "school readiness" and the desired learning outcomes that come with this, are intertwined into the daily learning, and play that we offer.

Our kaiako work collaboratively with tamariki to design a learning environment that will best capture and extend children’s current interests. Where they have the opportunity to express freely and creatively, sharing conversations, thoughts and ideas. An important part of our philosophy is that in doing this, we can prepare children not just for school but also for life.

Community

At Busy Bees Te Mata, we have an important part to play in our local community and a very special opportunity to positively impact the lives of our young tamariki. We celebrate whakawhanaungatanga (relationships) by connecting with our community through multicultural celebrations and creating a strong sense of belonging.

We are fortunate the centre is a short walk from the Honey Centre and our nature walks include our local citrus grove and vineyards. We also have a partnership with Weleda to learn their cultivating ways with nature.

Hauora

Health and wellbeing are essential aspects in childrens lives. By placing intentional focus on each of these areas, we are providing tamariki with every opportunity to gain the skills and habits to take with them into a healthy future.

By focusing on the 4 key pillars of Hauora (Tana Tihana: physical, Taha Hinengāro: mental and emotional, Tana Whānau: family and social and Taha Wairua: spiritual wellbeing) we weave key aspects into the everyday curriculum with our children.

As part of this ongoing commitment to the holistic wellbeing of tamariki, we have researched and developed programmes focused specifically on the two key areas of Physical Activity (Move) and Nutrition (Nourish).

Kai
Our Centre Cook lovingly prepares morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea daily. All menus are dietitian approved and have been thoughtfully designed following the New Zealand Food and Nutrition Guidelines and the Ministry of Health Healthy Eating for Babies, Toddlers and Children.

Our outdoor spaces are inviting, children are surrounded by nature and opportunities to explore among the trees and the tree hut. We have a large sandpit with water play and on warm, sunny days children love playing in the feijoa tree's sprinkler.

Children love being adventurous, riding the bikes through the garden. The monkey bars and swings help children develop their strength and balance. We also have carpentry and art experiences set under the trees, inviting creativity and relaxation. With a slide to whizz down, open spaces to run freely and climbing frames to stretch their capabilities, there is no better place for children to spend their days.

Environment

“Te manaaki i te taiao” Cherish and conserve the environment that surrounds us

Busy Bees Napier Road believes that the environment is a child’s third teacher and strives to provide a nature rich environment with vast indoor and outdoor spaces. Our cosy Kōwhai Room (0-2 year olds) and adventurous Redwood Room (2-5 year olds) have their own large outdoor space filled with real grass and beautiful trees. Our natural environment allows tamariki to connect with Papatūānuku (the natural world) and gives them the freedom to explore and have fun.

Kōwhai Room (up to 2 years)

Our Kōwhai Room environment is based on building loving and trusting bonds between pēpi. Kaiako and whānau, who structure the day according to individual pēpi needs. Kaiako work closely with whānau to understand our pēpi cues and develop a routine that supports our tamariki natural rhythms. Kaiako utilise sensory play, outdoor exploration, music and movement to create a fun, interactive atmosphere whilst maintaining a focus on the love, care and affection that pēpi need to thrive.

Redwood Room (2-5 years)

Our Preschool provides a rich learning environment focused on the tuākana (older children) of our centre ensuring they have the opportunity to develop confidence, independence and self-management all of which align with Te Whāriki (Early Childhood Curriculum) and the pathways to kura (school). Tamariki are encouraged to care for others, the environment and their own property and are supported to understand their growing sense of responsibility for themselves and the world around them. While reading and writing materials are available to explore, the curriculum is emergent and discovery-based, with kaiako observing and conversing with tamariki to develop projects based on their interests.

Passionate Teachers

We have a talented group of kaiako who have been selected based on their experience and passion within the Early Learning field, their professional knowledge of teaching and nurturing tamariki as well as their philosophy of education and knowledge of child development. Kaiako build meaningful, respectful relationships with tamariki and their whānau and work in partnership regarding all aspects of tamariki learning, interests, goals and holistic development.

Transport

We proudly operate our own Busy Bees Napier Road centre van, allowing us to help support both new and existing whānau who require assistance with transport to and from the centre. We also utilise this awesome resource for excursions out and about in our local community!

Community

Whānau love the rich sense of community at Busy Bees Napier Road, and our curriculum reflects our philosophy for strong relationships. We believe that we have an important part to play in our local community and a very special opportunity to positively impact the lives of our young tamariki in their early stages of development. We love to explore our local community as we believe it helps to enhance tamariki’s knowledge about people, places, things and events.

Hauora

Health and wellbeing are essential aspects in tamariki lives. By placing intentional focus on each of these areas, we are providing tamariki with every opportunity to gain the skills and habits to take with them into a healthy future.

We believe in the importance of play-based learning and research supports that this process of learning enhances children’s academic and developmental learning outcomes later in life.

Play-based learning uses children's natural motivation to play. A play-based program builds on this motivation, using play as a context for learning. Children can explore, experiment, discover and solve problems in imaginative and playful way.

A play-based approach involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. The teacher encourages children’s learning and inquiry through interactions that aim to stretch their thinking to higher levels.

At Havelock North Village Kids, we believe in the child’s right to play. Our play-based curriculum ensures children have access to quality open ended resources, with teachers that know how best to integrate learning through play.

Royals Early Learning Centre

Knowing God’s Love

At the heart of our Christian faith, lies the belief that God has a big heart for people and the world He created. It is our heart-felt desire to reflect and teach this love to the children in our care throughout every aspect of our centre. Our program includes a Christian curriculum where children are taught about God through bible stories, songs, and prayer; however it is paramount that our Christian ethos is mostly reflected in the loving and respectful relationships we have with one another.

Relationships

Relationships are the foundation of our teaching practices at Royals. We believe that when children feel known, loved and celebrated, they are ‘emotionally satisfied,’ resulting in their engagement in play, where quality learning takes place. Our teachers are committed to fostering and building relationships with every child where they are affirmed as both individuals and within their cultural identity. This is also supported by all of our parents and whānau. Their continuous support is of great value to our centre!

A Rich, Playful and Peaceful Environment

We believe that children learn best through play. We endeavour to provide an environment that provokes creativity, encourages children to think and wonder, challenges the child’s capabilities and expands both their knowledge and understanding across a range of experiences. Our rural based setting allows children to connect with nature, which supports in fostering a peaceful environment. We aim to create an aesthetically pleasing environment which evokes feelings of warmth, simplicity and comfort that allows children to focus on what matters – their creative play with peers and time communicating or working with their teachers.

Creativity is the heart of all learning

At Royals we believe that each child is born an artist and creator. We provide an environment enriched with resources which will promote children’s creativity and artistic identity. This peaceful creative space allows children to explore a range of mediums which will develop a range of their fine and large motor skills.

Cherry Grove @ 101

Quality Childcare, Exceptional Environment

Cherry Grove Childcare has been established to provide what we as parents wanted our children to have in a childcare facility – space to grow and explore, with nurturing, passionate teachers who would support our tamariki to reach their full potential.

At Cherry Grove we believe that every child is born with an innate sense of curiosity that needs to be fostered emotionally, socially, and intellectually. We have designed Cherry Grove to be a place of wonder and discovery. Our teachers recognise that early childhood is a very precious time for children, and understand that every child is unique. Cherry Grove places importance on working in partnership with parents to achieve their aspirations for their child.

Building relationships with our parents and whānau allows us to work collaboratively to best support each child's interests, unique abilities, and cultural diversity. The strong partnerships we have with families is something we are very proud of at Cherry Grove. Children have a wonderful sense of belonging here which empowers them to explore and develop.

At Cherry Grove there are plenty of opportunities to discover and understand your child’s learning style. We have a desire to work alongside you as the parents, to support your child to establish worth and self-confidence, and to nurture their social relationships and create an environment of questioning and discovery.

The environment at Cherry Grove Childcare and Family Centre has been specifically designed to cater for the needs of children from 0-6 years of age. We have nine different inside areas that recognise the importance of providing appropriate group size to allow for more stimulating, responsive, and supportive interactions for infants, toddlers, young children, and their teachers.

Over 80% of our teaching team are fully qualified and will be present to help greet and settle your children on arrival. In partnership with parents, teachers have daily routines which promote calm and settled environments that build trust and anticipation. Te Kōhanga Reo o Turi Pai Whenua

Te Kōhanga Reo

The kōhanga reo movement is a unique initiative based on total immersion in Māori language and values with the aim of passing on Māori culture to future generations.

Kōhanga reo emphasise the revitalisation of the culture through te reo Māori and are dependent on the active participation of the whole whānau. The kaupapa of kōhanga reo aims to strengthen whānau capabilities in cultural, social, economic, spiritual and political matters. Education, health and wellbeing are inherent within all aspects of the kaupapa. The prime focus is the whānau – its collective development, growth, accountability and wellbeing set within a Māori cultural context.

Kōhanga reo do not regard tamariki in isolation, but as important members of the whānau. The kōhanga reo philosophy is that tamariki will benefit when whānau successfully operate according to the kaupapa. Tamariki are an integral part of whānau development.

The following key goals are the foundation of te kōhanga reo kaupapa established in 1982:

  • total immersion in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga in daily operations
  • whānau decision-making, management and responsibility
  • accountability
  • health and wellbeing of mokopuna and whānau.

The key goals of te kōhanga reo assure that there will be:

  • security in te reo Māori
