Pohutukawa Early Learning Centre is committed to providing quality interactions with children which encourage their wanting to learn, question, take risks and ask 'why'. We want our children to develop a strong sense of self-esteem. We provide a programme that is fully reflective of the New Zealand curriculum.

Our philosophy includes a commitment to work in partnership with our parents and whanau and to encourage you to be involved in any decision-making concerning your child’s learning at our child care centre.

Our learning programmes are continually assessed and implemented after consultation with you. Your child's interests and needs are regularly analysed and catered for.

Above all we provide a safe, happy, healthy and stimulating environment for the first steps of your child's education.

Programme

The centres programme is developed in consultation with parents and children and is strongly based on children’s individual needs and interests.  Teachers use observations to document children’s interests, strengths and learning which are shared with parents and whānau.

Throughout the day children can choose from a range of learning experiences in a carefully prepared environment.  Teachers and children interact in responsive reciprocal ways to support learning experiences that are meaningful to all.  Teachers effectively use a range of teaching practices that encourage children to develop working theories.

Transition to school is supported through ongoing relationships with local primary schools.

Te Kōhanga Reo

The kōhanga reo movement is a unique initiative based on total immersion in Māori language and values with the aim of passing on Māori culture to future generations.

Kōhanga reo emphasise the revitalisation of the culture through te reo Māori and are dependent on the active participation of the whole whānau. The kaupapa of kōhanga reo aims to strengthen whānau capabilities in cultural, social, economic, spiritual and political matters. Education, health and wellbeing are inherent within all aspects of the kaupapa. The prime focus is the whānau – its collective development, growth, accountability and wellbeing set within a Māori cultural context.

Kōhanga reo do not regard tamariki in isolation, but as important members of the whānau. The kōhanga reo philosophy is that tamariki will benefit when whānau successfully operate according to the kaupapa. Tamariki are an integral part of whānau development.

The following key goals are the foundation of te kōhanga reo kaupapa established in 1982:

• total immersion in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga in daily operations
• whānau decision-making, management and responsibility
• accountability
• health and wellbeing of mokopuna and whānau.

The key goals of te kōhanga reo assure that there will be:

• security in te reo Māori
• a supportive, caring environment for mokopuna
• whānau (collective) sharing of responsibilities, knowledge and expertise
• greater respect and appreciation of each other.

Wairarapa Montessori preschool offers a peaceful, harmonious and orderly environment. It is based around a structured learning curriculum, supported by Montessori-trained teachers and special Montessori learning equipment. Children are allowed to work at their own pace using unique materials. These encourage self-confidence, independence, self-discipline and concentration.

Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Westside Playcentre

Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

We welcome you to visit any time during the year. You are entitled to three free visits so come and check out what we do – we would love to meet you and your family!

Kahurangi is an all-day kindergarten in Masterton, providing care and education for babies, toddlers and young children.

We cater to the needs of whanau, and work to try and provide suitable hours for each family.

The principle of whanaungatanga (family connection, relationships, working together, caring for each other in a trusting environment) forms the basis for our work.

We provide a safe, peaceful and unhurried place to support infants and toddlers.  Children have time and space to explore, learn and develop at their own pace.  A consistent teaching team enables us to build effective and respectful relationships.

Our teachers are passionate about supporting all children’s learning, development, skills and attitudes and habits for future formal learning.

Kahurangi provides an inviting, fun and stimulating environment which inspires children to get involved, explore and investigate.  We are guided by our early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki, to support and extend all children.

Lansdowne Private Childcare and Pre-School Centre is privately owned and has been caring for children in Masterton since 1993. We are dedicated to providing high quality care & education in a safe and relaxed enviroment that we hope will be familiar and comfortable for your child.

Educational Programme

Lansdowne Private Childcare and Pre-School has an educational programme which is planned in advance with a combination of structured activities and free play, and is always flexible. It includes stories, music, puzzles, dough, blocks, painting, water, collage, dramatic play, fitness activities, sand play, cooking, self help skills and many other activities, which may include visits outside the centre as well as special interest visits.

The programme is based around the project approach and is designed so that children grow, develop and learn at their own pace.

We are committed to running our early Childcare Centre in a relaxed manner, promoting a nurturing environment which provides quality care and education where children feel safe, happy and secure, as they would do in their own homes. The children are exposed to a wide range of stimulating age appropriate activities and warm and caring staff.

We are a multi-cultural centre with a programme of activities to suit all ages and stages of a child's development, this includes allowing children to learn in their own time and at their own level to explore their imaginative and artistic capabilities and providing them with the love, nurture and trust they need in order to achieve this.

Our centre life is assessed and evaluated reflecting children's individual development as well as group learning. Our thinking and talking books, wall displays and photo's show children's participation in centre life. We offer 4 year old children in preparation for school a group time which encourages self help skills and an extension to the day to day literacy and numeracy activities the centre provides.
