Casa Nova Kindergarten

Casa Nova Kindergarten is located at the North End of Oamaru in a fun, friendly and spacious environment. Our location supports our uniquely diverse nga tamariki and whanau to embrace their own identities and that of others. We enjoy getting to know everyone involved in our community and take the time to develop partnerships with all. We are lucky to boundary Pembroke School and enjoy shared opportunities for learning with them.

We offer a range of options within our sessions with some full time spaces available. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday is generally for our four and five year old akonga and Wednesday and Fridays for our two and three years olds. Providing meals four days a week free of charge supports our nga tamariki to be exposed to a wide range of kai options that promotes a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Kaiako support our nga tamariki and whanau by building upon values of Manaakitanga (respect), Nga Hononga (relationships), Turangawaewae (inclusion) and Maia Whatumanawa Papori (social and emotional competence). We love getting involved with the wider community and enjoy many excursions out and about, celebrating where we live and the opportunities within. The living world is alive in our place, our gardens, and our three heihei (chickens) a big part of our learning. We pride ourselves on the challenges we offer our tamariki and really enjoy supporting them to build upon their skills in practical and collaborative ways. Problem solving, risk taking, communication, relationships, collaboration and friendliness part of our way of being.

Holmes Kindergarten

At Holmes Kindergarten we have a strong vision/moemoea that reflects our learning environment, “Joy, laughter and fun feeds the body, mind and spirit” … “Ko te koa, te kata me te ngahau ka whangai i te tinana, hinengaro me te wairua”. Our curriculum priority is relationships/ whanaungatanga which embrace the importance of children growing reciprocal relationships with Kaiako and tamariki, and learning the importance of being respectful and kind to each other.

We are nestled back off the street in between two outdoor play areas which provide opportunites for the tamariki to play and explore through different resources. There is an open plan learning environment within the Kindergarten where children have many opportinites to choose their area of play and learning.

Our curriculum design ensures that they are able to be imaginative and creative with, and alongside other children. The emergent interests of the children are reflected on the walls of the kindergarten and the children have agency to display their works of art through their pictures or photographs.

Edna McCulloch Kindergarten

Welcome to Edna McCulloch Kindergarten.

“At Edna McCulloch Kindergarten, our over-arching vision is to develop responsive and reciprocal relationships between tamariki, kaiako, whanau and our community, by respecting and valuing the richness of culture within our community of learners and acknowledging the dual heritage of Aotearoa.

Whanaungatanga/relationships, Manaakitanga/respect, Confidence/Maia and Diversity are our current curriculum priorities and underpin our teaching and learning across the program. As a result our tamariki are developing the skills to be self-directed learners who are able to manage themselves and understand how they can support their friends and the community as a whole along the way.

Our daily mindfulness practice supports children to grow their emotional wellbeing and resiliency for their focused sustained learning.  The concept of Tuakana/Teina (where more experienced learners support less experienced akonga) is actively encouraged and supported in our day.”

Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Weston Playcentre

Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

Montessori Oamaru

MONTESSORI OAMARU

Hands-on learning from newborn to 6 years

Montessori Oamaru follows the Montessori philosophy of child-directed learning, focusing on a respect for the child and their ability to learn through discovery. Our early learning centre is calm, warm and inviting; with light-filled spaces and an open plan, natural design. We create environments that encourage your child to explore and be creative, promoting active independence and freedom of choice.

Our ‘Montessori family’ of teachers are present to observe and guide your child’s learning in a supportive and patient manner while ensuring the best possible environment for learning.

The Montessori method focuses on observed learning with a fully child-led philosophy.

The main idea is that when a child is introduced to a well-prepared environment, they are naturally able to learn. The Montessori method of education gives children unique opportunities to learn more thoroughly without distraction and efficiently through experience, guidance and practice. The teacher in a Montessori environment plays the role of a ‘guide’, someone who is there to offer a framework for the child’s own interests and passions. The Montessori environment provides a safe, calm, carefully designed setting for optimal learning that nurtures the physical and spiritual being.
