Childcare options in Pongaroa

Pongaroa Early Years (PEY) is a community owned Preschool that has been running  since May 2008.  It is well attended by children from Pongaroa and surrounding communities such as Tiraumea, Akitio and Weber.  PEY is an All Day service licensed for 22 over 2 children and 5 under 2 children.  PEY is a unique centre that aims to be accessible for all of our community, with the local primary school buses picking up many of our preschoolers and the use of the Local community courtesy coach.  

'With the child as the centre of our focus we will parter with parents, caregivers, whanau, extended whanau and the wider community in providing a caring and nurturing environment.  Relationships at Pongaroa Early Years are viewed as part of a life long journey.  

Connecting with people and relating in ways that have meaning are important.  Co-constructive learning is valued and collaborative planning enhances all aspects of the programme.  Learning dispositions, knowledge creation and progress is supported as we grow in sensitivity and compassion towards others.  Steps through learning are celebrated widely as confidence blossoms, and transitions are made seamless.                              

The welcoming and supportive environment is inclusive of all the people who have an influence on learning.  We acknowledge the value of play to support learning.  Communication is valued to build relationships with others, investigate the environment and make sense of experiences.  The curriculum is a blend of the interests, passions and strengths of learners and teacher judgement based on observation.'
