Environment & Sustainability

Passionate Teachers

At Busy Bees Putāruru, we see children as unique individuals and our passionate kaiako (teachers) work closely with each age and stage in dedicated environments suited to each age group. Our competent teachers in the Kakano room, provide plenty of aroha and awhi, in a nurturing and loving environment for under 2's.  Our curious 2-year-olds have a spacious warm indoor environment to explore, and our outdoor area for over 2's allows plenty of active space for children to play, ride bikes and explore papatuanuku, and we promote this through our curriculum at every opportunity.

Our Environment

We are so grateful for our beautiful and spacious indoor and outdoor areas, which keep our tamariki active and engaged, and provide the perfect environment for our tamariki to be children, to run, bike ride, laugh and play.  You'll often hear laughing, singing and happy giggles when you arrive at our centre as children enjoy being busy throughout the centre. We welcome whānau in our community to come and look through our beautiful grounds.

Central Kids Kindergartens - Glenshea

We are a small kindergarten located in the Raukawa iwi area, in the beautiful town of Putaruru.

At Central Kids Glenshea we encourage and support our tamariki, whanau and kaiako/teachers to learn in A tona wa/In their own time. We have an inviting, well-resourced environment to encourage child-initiated play.

Our passion is to support our tamariki to problem solve for themselves and with their peers. Whanau are able to access a neutral, friendly environment, where they feel comfortable to stay with their child, meet other parents and talk with kaiako/teachers. Majority of our whanau hear about us from the wider community. We pride ourselves on the reputation we hold within Putaruru.

We also offer a unique experience of Kohanga Ngahere, where our 8 eldest tamariki go out into the bush (Jim Barnett Reserve) each week to climb higher, explore, imagine, observe, listen, be resilient, wonder why, get messy, test boundaries, take responsible risks, make new friendships and learn to respect Papatuanuku. Our door is always open, come in and see us anytime.

Owlets Forest Early Learning Centre

Owlets Forest Early Learning Centre Philosophy

(formally Putaruru Childcare Ltd)

We are a locally owned and operated early childhood centre located in the heart of our small town. We are committed to providing natural and stimulating resources to our tamariki, many of which we source from in and around our town. We utilise our whanau and local community members to teach our children about other aspects of life and how they work to help others; such as ambulance, fire, police and library. We are very much a community orientated centre and love taking our children for walks and exploring what Putaruru has to offer our youngest members!

We provide a natural outside play environment where children learn the importance of protecting and nurturing papatuanuku through taking care of our vegetables and looking after our gardens.

We believe that our relationships with children should be based on respect and trust from nurturing adults familiar to children. Our passionate and dedicated teachers will take the time to develop respectful responsive relationships with all children and their whanau.

Abbey's Place Childcare Centre - Putaruru

  •  At Abbey’s Place Childcare Centres’ we believe that Early Childhood Education is an important part of a child’s learning and development.
  •  We believe that providing opportunities for children to take control of their own learning is vital.
  •  Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace in a safe, consistent, trusting environment which is meaningful to children, allowing us to build the foundations   for their lifelong learning.
  •  Our philosophy is based on a socio cultural context in which children learn through socialization and play with and alongside other more capable peers and adults.
  •  Spontaneous play is recognised as “free play”, “free play” stems from the interests of the children and this is supported, affirmed and extended by competent   teachers through a planned process of assessment and evaluation which shows progression in learning and development and creates an emergent curriculum.
  •  Staff, children, parents and whānau are encouraged to use te reo Māori, tikanga and cultural practices that reflect the dual heritage of Aotearoa/New Zealand   and the Treaty of Waitangi. Likewise we acknowledge other cultures that contribute to our setting.
