Doubtless Bay Kindergarten

We are a kindergarten situated in the heart of Doubtless Bay, next door to Taipa Area School and a stone’s throw from Taipa beach.

DOUBTLESS BAY KINDERGARTEN

Nau mai haere mai ,welcome to Doubtless Bay Kindergarten,  positioned in the heart of Doubtless Bay, next door to Taipa Area School and a stone’s throw from Taipa beach.

Our teaching team is Carol Moffat (Head teacher), Sandra Wilson, Sonia Peat, Josie Smith and Paulette Shepherd who are all qualified and registered teachers. Our part time Administrator is Annette Dansey.

As a team we recognise the dual partnership, and heritage of Aotearoa, New Zealand, and have a commitment to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We acknowledge Te Whāriki, the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum, as the context for everything we do as teachers. It guides and influences our work with children and whanau.

As teachers we embrace the concept of whakawhanaungatanga; We emphasise the significance of building strong relationships, which foster children and  their whanau’s sense of belonging to the Doubtless Bay Kindergarten community and this underpins our programme by building collaborative relationships with whanau, local Schools, Early Childhood settings, and the wider community.

Tamariki learn best when they are able to learn through experiences that are genuine, authentic and meaningful to them. By creating an atmosphere of manaakitanga, we believe that every child is empowered to become a confident, creative, intentional learner secure in self-esteem, independence, social competence, and cultural identity. We see our role as nurturing each child’s uniqueness by weaving together whanau aspirations with educational outcomes.

We value the concept of Akonga, being teachers and learners together and view our role, as teachers, as fostering responsive, respectful and reciprocal relationships with people and places.

Risk and challenge is something that our team is passionate about. Encouraging children to step into the space outside their comfort zone, whilst developing their resilience and self-care skills ~ knowing their boundaries and learning to manage these.

We value the concept of lifelong learning for both children and adults. Therefore, we aim to continually enhance our practice as educators through reflective practice, team discussion, collaborative research, mentoring Student Teachers, and participating in wide ranging professional learning opportunities.

We are mindful of our unique setting here in Doubtless Bay and make a commitment to giving children opportunities to connect with the whenua and moana. We value our unique location and make a commitment to embracing the principles of Kaitiakitanga to develop a sense of respect and responsibility for the finite resources of the earth through practices that engender thoughtful use of time and resources.

At Taipa Treasures we want your child to develop to their full potential. We understand that the quality of care can shape their entire lives so we work hard to provide them with an environment that is safe, stimulating, fun and empowering.

We have excellent child-to-teacher ratios and offer primary care or a key caregiver for your child. This means that they will always feel comfortable and it also gives you a point of contact who understands yours and your child’s needs.

Our Curriculum:

Te Whāriki, the NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, was the first program to incorporate different cultural perspectives and understandings into teaching.

We realise that each child is different and will learn, grow and develop differently to others. We embrace this diversity by using Te Whākariki to guide our teaching practices. Empowerment for children, exploration, thinking and reasoning is a core part of our program, as is whānau, relationship building and working with others.

Children are given a sense of comfort with routines, customs and regular events, while also exploring their creativity through stories, games, music, art, woodwork, gardening, water play, animal care and much more.

Our Staff :

Research shows that qualified early childhood teachers are more effective at helping children to develop learning habits that can set them on a journey of life-long learning.

With over 50 years combined experience, our team are 100% qualified and registered teachers. This means that we’re trained to not only care for your child, but also to facilitate their learning, growth and development.

We understand the importance of learning – so we’re always learning too. We keep up with the latest educational research and practices so that we can pass these on to you and your child.

Te Kōhanga Reo o Ngati Kahu

Te Kōhanga Reo

The kōhanga reo movement is a unique initiative based on total immersion in Māori language and values with the aim of passing on Māori culture to future generations.

Kōhanga reo emphasise the revitalisation of the culture through te reo Māori and are dependent on the active participation of the whole whānau. The kaupapa of kōhanga reo aims to strengthen whānau capabilities in cultural, social, economic, spiritual and political matters. Education, health and wellbeing are inherent within all aspects of the kaupapa. The prime focus is the whānau – its collective development, growth, accountability and wellbeing set within a Māori cultural context.

Kōhanga reo do not regard tamariki in isolation, but as important members of the whānau. The kōhanga reo philosophy is that tamariki will benefit when whānau successfully operate according to the kaupapa. Tamariki are an integral part of whānau development.

The following key goals are the foundation of te kōhanga reo kaupapa established in 1982:

  • total immersion in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga in daily operations
  • whānau decision-making, management and responsibility
  • accountability
  • health and wellbeing of mokopuna and whānau.

The key goals of te kōhanga reo assure that there will be:

  • security in te reo Māori
  • a supportive, caring environment for mokopuna
  • whānau (collective) sharing of responsibilities, knowledge and expertise
  • greater respect and appreciation of each other.
