Fees

We know you want the very best for your child – so do we. That’s why we don’t compromise on safe, loving, care and learning. Our team are committed to ensuring your family receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance
  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family

Acknowledging that each child in our care has different needs, we ask our whānau to supply your child’s own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.

Why choose our centre?

Our Milford location provides safe, loving childcare in two separate centres – one specialising in preschoolers since 1972, and one catering for babies and toddlers, since 1977. Together, they provide exceptional care and education for your child from infancy until they are ready for primary school. Our environments are intentionally planned to provide the nurturing care, creative learning and social opportunities tailored to your child’s individual needs.

We regularly care for second-generation tamariki, because we offer an experienced, passionate team – committed to supporting each child and partnering with their whānau.

Our ‘home-away-from-home’ is a relaxed setting in which your child can spend their days happily playing in our free-flowing indoor/outdoor spaces, and being nurtured through the intentional learning experiences offered through our engaging, fun-filled curriculum.

Westlake Forrest Hill Kindergarten

Kia ora and welcome to Westlake Forrest Hill Kindergarten

Westlake Forrest Hill Kindergarten has a large and open outdoor area. Perfect for children to explore, play, take calculated risks and make social connections, in an environment designed for learning.

We believe that each child brings a uniqueness and knowledge layered from their own wider family, culture and home life. We welcome parents and whānau as we recognise the importance of these connections to wellbeing and finding a sense of belonging.

A strong focus on child directed play, we work alongside children as co-constructers of knowledge, inquiry and skills. Building on individual strengths and interests. Our goal is to create an environment where children can grow, have fun, develop friendships and learn about the world through a sustainable lens. Te Whāriki the New Zealand Early learning curriculum underpins our quality and creative learning experiences.

Our extensive vegetable garden provides a place where we grow seasonal produce and learn about Papatūānuku, planting, tending to our seedlings, growing and harvesting our own seasonal produce, and connect to the adjacent community garden.

Come and meet our dedicated team of qualified teachers: Ulrike, Karen and Ann, our head teacher Sheena; our teacher aide, Carolyn and Administrator, Tania.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our Kindergarten and our community.

Our learning philosophy

For the past 110 years, the Auckland Kindergarten Association has been igniting young minds by encouraging them to explore their imaginations through play. For many of us, kindergarten was where we began our life of learning; it was where we started learning skills like sharing, tolerance, patience, respect and self-confidence.

We view children as capable, competent, life-long learners, and our philosophy encourages children to make their own learning choices, problem-solve and observe and explore at their own pace…with support from teachers, parents, wider whānau and their peers. We value the importance of child-initiated, play-based experiences. Our kindergarten teachers nurture your children’s interests and natural curiosity by working alongside them, expanding language and introducing mathematical and science concepts, as well as literacy, digital technology and sustainable practices.

Our centres have gardens and natural outdoor spaces where children can create, explore, be imaginative and expressive. There’s plenty of room to safely run about, being imaginative and physically active. In fact, the natural world is essential to free-range play. AKA encourages each kindergarten community to explore and enrich their diversity and uniqueness. Some have regular excursions into the local community; some are Enviroschool kindergartens that live and breathe sustainable practices; while others engage in long-term research on child interest-based programmes of learning.

As an organisation, we formally acknowledge the dual heritage of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and work to uphold the spirit and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in each kindergarten. We are accessible, secular and welcoming to the wide diversity of tamariki and whānau who attend our centres, and value ongoing partnerships between teaching teams and leadership staff with families and whānau. We value ongoing learning for teachers, parents and whānau, and the sharing of knowledge, skills and attributes is fundamental to achieving the best learning outcomes for children. Teachers and staff can access collegial professional time to ensure that quality practice is enhanced so current theories of learning and development within New Zealand’s world-class Te Whāriki early childhood curriculum are shared and understood.

The Learning Space - Takapuna

The foundation to The Learning Space philosophy is born from relationships; equal partnerships between children, caregivers, whanau and community and the environment. These relationships are established on the culture of kindness, through caregiving moments and our daily interactions. Children are valued as free and equal human beings who are at all times allowed to tune into their bodies and into their play. Children are supported to develop and explore in their own time and at their readiness. Through our everyday environment we offer each child the ‘known’ through consistency, taking time and reciprocal communication. Our teachers role model the centre values within their practice; their journeys enriched with passion and joy as they learn alongside one another. This empowers the child to fulfil their rights for expression in many different ways, creating opportunities to discover their individual identities. Parent and whānau participation is fundamental for future extension of the daily life of The Learning Space, embracing partnership with both local and wider communities and celebrating the rich diversity of the languages and cultural significance that families bring to our everyday experiences.

“Take care of our children. Take care of what they hear, take care of what they see, take care of what they feel. For how the children grow, so will be the shape of Aotearoa.” – Dame Whina Cooper

Takapuna  Learning Space is located in the grounds of North Shore Hospital catering for children of hospital staff and the local community with open hours of 6:45 am – 5:30 pm Monday – Friday.

The environment at Takapuna Learning Space is filled with natural and recycled materials and resources to provoke a sense of wonder and curiosity. It is a space for 60 children aged between 3 months and 6 years in three separate learning areas allowing for strong relationships between children, parents/whānau and educators. Each room is unique to the age of the children it cares for, reflecting the philosophy and how it relates to each individual age group, from primary care giving in the Pipi room to the development of independence in the Paua room. The outdoor environment is large and contains many mature trees where birds and rabbits visit. The children are allowed to explore in their own time and pace, getting dirty, climbing & creating memories to share with their friends and families.

The teaching team is there to support and guide the children through their daily encounters by thoughtful questioning allowing the children to search for meaning and understanding alongside each other. The educators daily practice is underpinned by the values of respect, trust, collaboration, joy and wonder which are interwoven into the centre philosophy, culture and beliefs.

The Takapuna Learning Space is found at the end of a quiet street within the North Shore Hospital grounds. Close to Takapuna, Milford and motorway on ramps.

Milford Kindergarten

Milford Kindergarten is a magical place with hidden treasures, where children love to explore, be imaginative and learn. At Milford Kindergarten there is an “at home” feel – a sense of belonging where everyone feels welcome.

It’s a place of learning, providing the best in early childhood education through the use of both long-established and proven methods, and innovative teaching. Our kids love to explore, to be creative, and to learn along the way in our welcoming environment, where they can belong and feel at home, included and nurtured. Located beside the beautiful Lake Pupuke and Sylvan Park Reserve in a coastal area of the North Shore of Auckland, we are proud to have a focus on nature and sustainable practices in our programmes. We are a proud Silver Enviroschool.

Kindergarten offers the best way to prepare your child for school and equip them for a lifetime of successful learning. Family and community are an integral part of the experience here, and we encourage parents and whanau to be involved in every possible way.

Milford Kindergarten feeds into Milford and Campbells Bay Schools.

Kindergarten provides your child with a different experience than other Milford daycare and childcare options. We are a part of the Auckland Kindergarten Association, a charitable organisation with a long legacy of educating Kiwi kids and setting them up for the best start in life and learning. Kindergartens are community based and place a lot of emphasis on families, encouraging parents and other whānau to be involved in all aspects of learning. We also provide a lot of support for a smooth transition to school as our children draw closer to that big change.
