Fees

We don’t compromise on safe, supportive, care and education because, like you, we want the best for your child. That’s why our team works hard to ensure your whānau receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, which includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance
  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family

Knowing that every child’s needs are different, we ask that you supply your child’s own nappies, bottles and formula for each day.

Why choose our centre?

When we opened our early childhood centre in 1981, we wanted to serve the tamariki and whānau in Remuera and the surrounding community – by providing safe, loving care and learning. Nurtured in rooms with other tamariki at a similar age and stage of development, we’ll take care of your child from infancy until they are ready for primary school. Each room and outdoor play area is intentionally planned to provide the nurturing care, creative learning and social opportunities that respond to your child’s individual needs.

In our daycare, we take the time to get to know your little one – their interests, strengths and needs that make them who they are. And we partner with you to develop an individualised learning plan just for your child: one that gives them the confidence - and the fun - to keep learning. Settled by strong, nurturing relationships, our devoted team will fill your child’s days with fun, discovery, and delight as they grow and reach their full potential.

At Kindercare Remuera, you’ll find that we celebrate the individuality of every child, and keep talking with you, to keep in touch and support you in fulfilling your aspirations and hopes for your child.

BestStart Remuera Road

BestStart Remuera Road, is a quality childcare centre situated on the corner of Remuera Road and St Marks Road, convenient to Newmarket train station and motorway access. We are proud of our excellent reputation in promoting stimulation and development for children from 3 months to 6.

We nurture the learning that matters

Our guiding philosophy ensures children’s interests are followed and teachers plan learning experiences which relate to and extend those interests. The two different rooms and playgrounds are spacious and cater for various children’s needs – from learning to crawl on a safe mat, to climbing ladders, mastering balancing, doing tricks on the monkey bars and creating forts!

Collaboration with parents - For the team at BestStart Remuera Road parental involvement entails seeing parents as active collaborators in their own children’s learning and development. We have an excellent track record of parent participation in our internal evaluations on inclusive practices, healthy eating, physical education and more.

Learning opportunities in community - We believe that children, like adults, need a range of visual and sensory experiences to inspire and stimulate their creative potential. Excursions are an integral part of the centre curriculum as they enable children to explore, extend and enrich their learning and their social skill development.

Preparation for school - Our unique Be School Ready initiative has been developed to ensure that children leave the centre as confident, capable learners and prepared for the next step in their education journey.

Funtastic Fridays - Through our play-based approach to learning and development we advocate minimum restrictions in children’s play. We have started the new initiative ‘Funtastic Friday’, where we expose children to age appropriate risk factors in the natural world such as fire, barbecue, cutting fruits, real life tools, road safety to name a few.

Remuera Kindergarten

Welcome to Remuera Kindergarten!

We have a strong philosophy that supports learning through play. At Remuera Kindergarten we notice, recognise and respond to children’s emergent curriculum to support their learning.

Our programme offers a rich learning environment and lots of space for children to challenge themselves and value the living world.  We want families to be involved at Remuera Kindergarten and really value them and the cultural capital that they bring to our community.

As teachers we are constantly amazed and excited about children’s view of the world around them. This keeps us interested and motivated every day that we work with them.

The Remuera Kindergarten team includes four qualified and registered teachers who bring with them varied and extensive experience in the early childhood field.  The team is supported by an administrator, and teaching assistants. The teachers are dedicated to inclusive practice, and passionate about children learning and exploring through play.  We are very community focussed and have built up relationships with some families over a number of years.

Our learning philosophy

For the past 110 years, the Auckland Kindergarten Association has been igniting young minds by encouraging them to explore their imaginations through play. For many of us, kindergarten was where we began our life of learning; it was where we started learning skills like sharing, tolerance, patience, respect and self-confidence.

We view children as capable, competent, life-long learners, and our philosophy encourages children to make their own learning choices, problem-solve and observe and explore at their own pace…with support from teachers, parents, wider whānau and their peers. We value the importance of child-initiated, play-based experiences. Our kindergarten teachers nurture your children’s interests and natural curiosity by working alongside them, expanding language and introducing mathematical and science concepts, as well as literacy, digital technology and sustainable practices.

Our centres have gardens and natural outdoor spaces where children can create, explore, be imaginative and expressive. There’s plenty of room to safely run about, being imaginative and physically active. In fact, the natural world is essential to free-range play. AKA encourages each kindergarten community to explore and enrich their diversity and uniqueness. Some have regular excursions into the local community; some are Enviroschool kindergartens that live and breathe sustainable practices; while others engage in long-term research on child interest-based programmes of learning.

As an organisation, we formally acknowledge the dual heritage of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and work to uphold the spirit and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in each kindergarten. We are accessible, secular and welcoming to the wide diversity of tamariki and whānau who attend our centres, and value ongoing partnerships between teaching teams and leadership staff with families and whānau. We value ongoing learning for teachers, parents and whānau, and the sharing of knowledge, skills and attributes is fundamental to achieving the best learning outcomes for children. Teachers and staff can access collegial professional time to ensure that quality practice is enhanced so current theories of learning and development within New Zealand’s world-class Te Whāriki early childhood curriculum are shared and understood.

Children learn

Children in our kindergartens have the opportunity to:

  • Feel confident, develop responsibility and a sense of independence
  • Play meaningfully alongside other children and adults
  • Develop effective communication skills
  • Persevere, problem-solve and take risks
  • Explore limits, boundaries, routines and conflict resolution strategies
  • Practice fine motor skills such as threading, writing, cutting and grasping
  • Develop gross motor play such as physical games like climbing, throwing, kicking, balancing and lifting
  • Develop creative expressions through painting, music, collage, movement, dance, finger-painting, drawing, cutting, pasting and story sharing
  • Develop early numeracy, literacy and science skills
  • Learn techniques through trial and error
  • Explore the world through experimenting, questioning and curiosity
  • Develop confidence and celebrate both attempts and successes
  • Develop a passion for learning and a love of life
  • Have fun!

Older children will be supported in their transition to school to make this process as simple and seamless as possible. Book a visit here on Kindello today, we’d love to meet you.

Remuera - Auckland

BestStart Ascot Avenue

Welcome to Beststart Ascot Ave, a newly renovated villa conveniently located between Remuera and Greenlane. We believe that each person has a bucket of happiness where we fill each other’s through appreciation, gratitude, kindness and positive energy. We believe that no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted!

Together we are filling our buckets!

We are reminded that there is a ripple effect on our actions, and through a little kindness comes love, appreciation and gratitude. We support the children in seeing the bigger picture, that when a bowl of kai comes, there is a whole story behind it. We think about the harvesting that happens, the delivery that comes, and then the food that is cooked freshly in Centre and served by our kaiako.

We give thanks and respect to everyone that supported the kai that comes to our table, and the resources that are made available to us. So we like to give back a little with every action and thought to our community; a compliment or a small gesture goes a long way. By filling other people’s buckets, we are filling our own.

Have you filled your bucket today?

All our food is cooked onsite with every child’s healthy wellbeing in mind. We base our recipes on organic and low sugar foods with lots of fruits and vegetables for each of our meals. Each child’s allergy and dietary requirements are taken very seriously, and children are taught to support one another in this as well. We also regularly explore new and healthy recipes to add to our ever-changing menu.

Our environment is also ever changing and the children have showed interest in building on our vegetable garden. This is something that we are continually working towards – being able to grow our own vegetables and to share them with the community and people around us.

Recyling and reusing the materials we have on hand is very important to us. Every resource is a blessing, so we want to make the most out of it. We like to reuse and recycle where we can, and we like to incorporate them into our creative artworks. Did you know that there are a hundred other uses for bottle caps? Time to think twice before throwing them away!

We have a strong focus on the relationship between all our age groups. We do have a separated area of our ove and U2 but encourage children to go between the rooms. This way, the older children learn through helping the younger ones, and the younger ones learn and grow confidence from the older ones. When the time comes for transition, the younger children are already very confident and familiar with the environment. The older children also know the younger children and are proactive helpers during their transition.

We like to build on that compassion and empathy early on. Respect and love are always a big focus for us at the Centre and we are continually looking at ways to show this through different channels. What are you grateful for today I wonder?

We are the everyday superheroes, spreading love and kindness at Beststart Ascot.

BestStart Meadowbank

BestStart Meadowbank is a beautiful converted villa that feels like a home away from home. Our centre is intimate and licensed for only 30 children. We offer quality education and care for children from 3 months to 5 years old. Meadowbank Primary School is a 1 minute walk away, which allows strong connection with this school, helping transition our children from preschool to primary smoothly.

Our outdoor environment is nurturing and natural. Our playground includes a bike track promoting physical education as well as a space to dig for treasure in the sandpit or engage in water play, climbing and balance equipment to promote muscle development, and a lovely big porch where children can dance, create art work and play imaginatively.

Infant and toddler Room - The Sunflowers - The spaces at BestStart Meadowbank are designed with separate areas for infants and toddlers, and we allow for supervised interaction between the age groups, adding to the family feel. The infant and toddler teachers form close trusting relationships with families and we follow each child’s home routine through respectful, reciprocal and responsive approach. We create a calm and loving environment for our youngest children filled with cuddles and smiles.

Preschool RoomThe Dinosaurs - The children transition to the preschool around the age of two and we take their lead as to when they are ready to move. The preschool is an exciting place for children, where their learning is developed to fulfil their potential. BestStart’s unique Be School Ready initiative prepares children individually and in groups for primary school focusing on literacy, numeracy, socialisation and independence skills. Our energetic teachers provide an environment that challenges and encourages learning through 16 standard play areas and tailor-made programmes based on children’s individualised interests and potentials.

An important part of our centre philosophy is to promote children’s social competency. This includes having shared spaces in the centre where siblings and younger/older children can interact and learn from each other, a concept called tuakana-teina. Friendships in our centre are key and our children know each other well. Our philosophy also encourages children to meet challenges without fear and allows the learning process to be fun.

We’d love you and your family to join us at BestStart Meadowbank. Call us for more information or to arrange a visit.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

We welcome you to visit any time during the year. You are entitled to three free visits so come and check out what we do – we would love to meet you and your family!

Te Puawaitanga o Atareta Playcentre

Te Puawaitanga o Atareta Playcentre (TPoA) is located in a new facility in Remuera and was opened in 2014. With a focus on valuing and affirming parents as the first and best educators of their children, we offer quality early childhood education within a multicultural community atmosphere.

At TPoA, we value child-led learning and have a richly resourced environment for your child to explore their interests. As you, or another family member or caregiver, attend sessions with your child, we work together with you to understand your child/ren’s goals and how we can best meet them during the sessions.

As a relatively new centre, we have a strong focus on adult education to enable us to deliver fantastic early childhood education as well as manage our beautiful facility. Our 2017 ERO review described TPoA as ‘well placed’ to facilitate the learning of our tamariki. Our members are supportive, friendly and fun. With a maximum 1:3 adult to child ratio, and most sessions running at 1:2, there is always someone available to help.
While situated on a quiet suburban street, we are only a stone’s throw from Remuera village and excellent bus links.

We welcome families with children from newborn to school age, at any time during the year.

We invite you to visit us and experience what Playcentre is all about.
Please book a visit on Kindello to arrange a time to look around our centre. We look forward to meeting you and your family.

Barbara's Place Early Childhood Centre

Barbara’s Place is a small well established Early Childhood Centre that has been in Remuera since 1989. It is licensed for 35 children. Barbara’s Place has a respectful, calm, caring atmosphere where mutual learning is highly valued, and everyone has a special place.

Barbara Hale opened ‘Barbara’s Place’ in 1989. It has always been an Early Childhood Centre in which “the children come first”. Barbara has become a highly respected advocate for high-quality Early Childhood Education within New Zealand.

Our philosophy

The basis of the philosophy at Barbara’s Place is respect. This encompasses respect for all children and all adults, whether they be teachers, whanau / families or visitors to our centre. We follow and are inspired by Te Whaariki (the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum). We are also inspired by the philosophies of Emmi Pikler and Magda Gerber. Within these guidelines we are committed to the life long benefits, creativity and emotional freedom that comes from a philosophy of free play for children. We believe that children’s personalities develop in the most natural and inspired way possible when their own minds and imaginations set the path. Each child brings us a slightly different way of seeing the world. It is this wonderful uniqueness that creates a truly special, ever evolving atmosphere of creativity and learning.

Poppies Kindergarten

Poppies Kindergarten has been proudly operating within the Remuera/Parnell community for over 30 years.  Our aim at Poppies is to offer young children a high quality introduction to a happy and successful life of learning.  Numerous generations of families in the area have spent their early days here.

The Poppies Childcare session runs from 8:15am-3.15pm for ages 2-6 years and we are licenced for just 40 children.  We are a privately owned family run kindy staffed by dedicated and passionate, qualified teachers.

Poppies Kindy is located on the sunny corner of Shore Road and Hapua Street, with sweeping views across the road to Thomas Bloodworth Park and we feel very fortunate to be able to explore the natural environment of this local park on our doorstep.

Our Childcare facilities have been purpose built and designed to be welcoming and to stimulate children’s creative learning and development whilst ensuring their safety and comfort.

The design and layout of our Early Childhood Education centre promotes indoor/outdoor flow, with large bifold doors folded back to flow out to our playground.  Poppies castle is nestled under a large mature tree offering a natural source of shade over the sandpit and mudpie kitchen.

We also have an enormous space upstairs for the performing arts and extra-curricular activities.  This specialist environment offers opportunities to engage in music, singing, dance and dramatic play, to build confidence and oral language skills.   Regular storybook yoga and gym sessions provide physical activity during rainy days.

Remuera Montessori

Remuera Montessori is a well-established small preschool licensed only for 30 children and located in one of the best suburbs in Auckland, in Remuera. Our Philosophy

The Montessori philosophy is based on supporting the complete development of the child as they progress from birth to adulthood. It takes the broad vision of education as an aid for life.

King's School - Early Learning Centre

The Early Learning Centre is situated alongside the Prep School (Years 1 - 2) at King’s School. It is here that the foundation for all future learning, self confidence and independence is developing. Boys can start with us from the age of 4 years old.

In the King's School environment the Early Learning Centre boys are offered many 'outside of the classroom' opportunities including music, swimming, games, Chapel and visiting local amenities such as the Remuera library. Boys also use the extensive grounds at King's School for exploration and discovery - allowing boys to be boys!

Our aim is for the boys in the Early Learning Centre to develop confidence to effectively communicate their needs; to have strategies to seek help; to be able to manage their own lunch box and belongings; and to have an understanding of keeping themselves safe.

The King's School Early Learning Centre provides an environment where children:

  • Feel safe and secure
  • Have positive experiences to develop a healthy self-esteem
  • Have connecting links with family and the wider world
  • Are affirmed as individuals
  • Know the limits and boundaries of acceptable behaviour
  • Have play that is valued as meaningful learning and learn the importance of spontaneous play
  • Develop non-verbal and verbal communication skills for a range of purposes
  • Learn strategies for active exploration, thinking and reasoning
  • Develop different ways to be creative and expressive
  • Have consistent, but flexible routines
  • Have programmes that are exciting and promote optimal learning
  • Are in an environment where literacy and numeracy are important
