Active Explorers Blockhouse Bay has two separate rooms, enabling us to deliver age appropriate experiences for children at each different age and stage.

Teina/Little Buddies Room

Our Teina/Little buddies room provide a safe and nurturing environment for infants and toddlers. ‘It takes a village to raise a child’  and we believe that for children to learn and grow in a safe and healthy environment, all the teachers have the collective responsibility to interact with and nurture the children. This will encourage our little people to develop warm relationships with everyone in their environment and helps very young children to have smooth transition into the new environment. The atmosphere is calm and nurturing, and teachers set up a range of learning experiences for children to explore their skills, strengths and interests. We have a spacious outdoor area with a natural setting for our young children. Each child also has a daily communication book where teachers record about their day and routines.

Tuakana/Big Buddies Room

Set up for our 2 to 5 year olds, the concept of the tuakana-teina relationship is strongly implemented by encouraging and motivating our older tamariki to help and support the younger tamariki. Children are provided with various learning experiences in different curriculum areas based on their interests and strengths and we organise trips/excursions to extend their interests and learning.

Our learning philosophy

For the past 110 years, the Auckland Kindergarten Association has been igniting young minds by encouraging them to explore their imaginations through play. For many of us, kindergarten was where we began our life of learning; it was where we started learning skills like sharing, tolerance, patience, respect and self-confidence.

We view children as capable, competent, life-long learners, and our philosophy encourages children to make their own learning choices, problem-solve and observe and explore at their own pace…with support from teachers, parents, wider whānau and their peers. We value the importance of child-initiated, play-based experiences. Our kindergarten teachers nurture your children’s interests and natural curiosity by working alongside them, expanding language and introducing mathematical and science concepts, as well as literacy, digital technology and sustainable practices.

Our centres have gardens and natural outdoor spaces where children can create, explore, be imaginative and expressive. There’s plenty of room to safely run about, being imaginative and physically active. In fact, the natural world is essential to free-range play. Our curriculum

With an age appropriate child development programme, we nurture these young minds and provide a loving environment that sees them grow into confident young individuals. Supporting this learning programme are passionate educators, purpose-built rooms and thoughtfully placed resources that fuel the natural sense of curiosity every child has.

Children have different ways of knowing and doing, different strengths and different talents. At All About Children Child Care, Avondale, we understand this. Our curriculum is guided by the Ministry of Education’s Te Whariki framework but individualised for every child.

Our passionate Child Care educators pride themselves in delivering open-ended, play-based learning experiences that lays the foundation for future learning. Outings, centre-based activities and community interactions add further flavour to our curriculum.

Primary Caregiving Programme (under 2 years)

Understanding the special needs of our pepe, bright nursery has its own outdoor area and dedicated sleep room. This is ideal for our tiny learners to blossom into confident toddlers. At its core, this programme ensures our pepe feel love and affection. Every child is a key teacher responsible for all their care needs and special moments. This builds secure relationships to allow us to support your child as an individual to reach their full potential.

Toddler programme (2 to 3 ½ years)

Our toddler child care  programme promotes a sense of independence and confidence. Open and inviting, a dedicated environment for toddlers provides this energetic age-group plenty of space to explore, take risks and challenge themselves. Experienced educators manage their multidimensional needs and the challenge of understanding the world around them. Our child care programme focuses on problem solving, skill building and becoming independent.

Preschool programme (3 ½ to 5 years)

Nearly there – but not completely. Our preschool programme focuses on providing the necessary tools and life skills as they prepare for the next chapter in their learning – primary school. We offer a transition to school programme that is tailored to fit your child’s individual learning and abilities. Established July 2013, we are a privately owned Montessori preschool located conveniently on the corner of Great North Road and Larch Street in Avondale. 

We have a strong foundation in Dr Maria Montessori's philosophy and, through our 'prepared environment', we provide unique learning programmes that incorporate all aspects of traditional Montessori methods while meeting the strands and learning outcomes of Te Whāriki the New Zealand Early Learning Curriculum.

The original 1920's house has been beautifully converted into a new spacious preschool which retains the warm homely feeling and character of the era yet has all the benefits of a modern building.

What we do

We provide a well prepared learning environment which is based on Montessori education methods integrated with Te Whāriki.

The preschool is an aesthetic, calm, warm and nature friendly home-like indoor and outdoor environment with well-organised learning materials in a scientifically designed sequence that is attractive for children to work within.

Children have the opportunity to work and learn alongside others with mixed ages, abilities, genders, cultures and learn to learn to be receptive, cooperative, warm and graceful in a positive atmosphere. We incorporate a bi-cultural approach within the preschool environment by embracing home cultures and customs that honour the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Aoga Amata Pacific Island Church Centre Avondale (AAPICA) has been a licensed facility since 2010 and provides good quality education within a Christian, Samoan context. The centre caters for children from 6 months to 5 years of age.

AAPICA is managed by the Aoga Amata Pacific Island Church Avondale Trust. The management group monitors operations and makes decisions about the strategic direction of the centre. They have supported many of the staff to gain early childhood qualifications and become registered teachers. The management group also ensures that staff are provided with ongoing professional learning and development.

“He kai kei aku ringaringa” (“I can eat my food with my own hands”). Here, we can offer our children opportunities for self-empowerment and support their development as competent and confident eaters. We believe that nutrition education happens through play and investigation by utilising each child's natural curiosity to explore, thus reconnecting them with the food we eat and how it gets to their plate. In our large Treetops space, children can engage in deeper learning opportunities and investigations, extend their creativity in the separate art atelier, or participate in our Moving Smart Program, or story yoga sessions.

Our Little Huia Room cares for our infants from 3 months - 2 years of age.  Our youngest infants are provided primary care, where one main teacher primarily supports your child, establishing a secure and trusting relationship through consistent care and routines. We have lovely intimate spaces and a cosy outdoor courtyard, providing a safe space for our very young infants to explore as they quickly grow, reaching amazing milestones. Our adventurous older children enjoy gaining more confidence and control of their bodies as they enjoy exploring a shared outdoor space with their Huia peers

Our Huia Room cares for our youngest toddlers aged from 2 - 2.5 years of age.  We have a lovely spacious room, offering two large attractive indoor areas, set up to meet the needs of our growing and courageous explorers. We have a lovely outdoor area that provides endless opportunities of uninterrupted hands on learning and experimenting with our ideas. Our outdoor gardens which we have thoroughly enjoyed growing and caring for, have given us a sense of responsibility for the living world and knowledge of how to care for it.  We empower our tamariki to continue to practice their self-help skills and provide a language-rich environment to support their growing verbal communication. We facilitate peaceful techniques to work with and alongside others.

Our Piha Room cares for our older toddlers aged from 2.5–3.5 years of age.  This attractive learning space invites our tamariki to engage in meaningful connections with their learning environment. The strong connections give our tamariki the upmost confidence to further develop their skills in all areas of their learning.  The indoor area that is beautifully encompassed in two big open and spacious areas, provides many opportunities for our active explorers to carry out their working theories and foster their curiosity. We have a lovely level outdoor area which offers a safe space for our tamariki to challenge themselves in safe and responsible ways.  Our beautiful big sandpit sits in front of a majestic mural of the Piha beach. Our team are dedicated to supporting children in mastering their self-help skills and building social competencies that support inclusive relationships.  On rainy days we keep our busy toddlers engaged in our wonderful indoor Gym area, where they enjoy expressing themselves through the world of drama, dance and navigating through obstacles. 

Our Karekare Room cares for our children aged from 3.5–5 years of age. On any day you will find scientists, artists, bakers, gardeners and so much more.  Our tamariki thrive through creating, researching, revisiting learning and applying past knowledge to new experiences.  We have beautiful intimate learning spaces in our indoor environment that invite tamariki  to engage in many different curriculum areas in a meaningful and purposeful way.  We have a wonderful spacious outdoor area, offering children ample opportunities to explore and challenge themselves physically, where in turn they continue to develop their confidence and independence.   We empower our tamariki to be great leaders, sharing responsibilities, negotiating and persevering through challenges and keeping themselves safe. We help foster loving, caring and empathetic tamariki, so that we may always show care and respect for everyone and everything in our lives. Our teachers are focused on growing children’s knowledge around numeracy and literacy, offering a beautiful balance for children as they prepare for their next learning journey to Primary School.

The primary focus at Rocket Kids is to develop children’s natural enthusiasm for learning  - fostering confidence and positive self esteem and providing a great foundation for future success.

OUR TEAM

At Rocket Kids we believe that quality staff are key to creating a supportive, nurturing and empowering learning environment. We operate with over 80% qualified teaching staff and also employ a centre cook.

Combined, our teaching staff have over 200 years experience in ECE!!

OUR LOCATION

Tucked away in Avondale, Rocket Kids operates from both a converted villa – creating a “home away from home” vibe for our youngest children, and a purpose designed auxiliary building to best meet the needs of our older children.

It is considered a 'boutique' early childhood service as it operates on a small and personal scale for children and families.

Rosebank Early Childhood Centre is a community-based early education centre catering for ages 0-5 years.

The centre is licensed for up to 38 children (FTE) including up to 6 under twos.

Rosebank Early Childhood Centre also offers 20 hours free education for children over three.

Learning Stars Prechool is a quality childcare centre dedicated to providing an inspirational and nurturing environment for children and their families. We offer expansive indoor and outdoor play and learning areas, with an emphasis on holistic development.The outdoor and indoor areas allow individual space to play, explore and discover. Our innovative learning curriculum and unique personalised services for parent and child makes us different than other childcare facilities.

We at Learning Stars believe in the individual child and the rights of that child, and in doing so we base our philosophy on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum Te Whāriki. We intregrate our own image of the Child with four mai principles of Te Whāriki:

• Empowerment: Our curriculum empowers the child to learn and grow through supporting them to become interactive learners and constructors of knowledge.
• Holistic Development: Our curriculum reflects the holistic way that children learn and grow through acknowledging them as unique free-spirited individuals.
• Family and Community: The wider world of family and community is an integral part of our curriculum and we foster active participation from all three protagonists.
• Relationships: Children learn through responsive and reciprocal relationships with people, places and things and we encourage the participation in meaningful relationships.

Early Explorers Childcare enrol children aged 3 months to 6 years

Privately owned, the staff and owners at Early Explorers Childcare are passionate about providing children with experiences that are full of fun and learning. Your children’s time with us will build happy memories to fondly look back on.

Early Explorers Childcare is a spacious centre with a large, natural outdoor area providing a “homely” feel. Large trees surround the property providing lucious shade in the summer. Children have plenty of space to run on our field or engage in the various activities in our courtyard. We are very well resourced and the days are filled with engaging experiences.

We are passionate about quality care. Your child will have a sense of belonging at Early Explorers. We encourage their growth and development, in a safe and secure environment. We believe building confidence, taking risks, embracing challenges, celebrating success and persevering when confronted with obstacles allows your child to make sense of their world and themselves as individuals and amongst peers.

Early Explorers is founded on the guiding principles from the Ministry of Education’s curriculum “Te Whaariki”. Our practice reflects the curriculum’s five aspects; well being, belonging, contribution, communication and exploration.

Located in the heart of Avondale, Kidsfirst Kindergartens Woolley St offers a peaceful and nurturing learning environment for children aged 2-5 years. With a strong sense of community, the kindergarten provides a beautiful setting surrounded by wide open, natural spaces. Inside, children have access to an open and inviting space where they can learn alongside their peers, engaging in independent and collaborative play. The teaching team encourages exploration and self-directed learning, empowering children to take control of their learning journey. The spacious backyard offers a variety of experiences, including sand and water play, imaginative play, and physical challenges under the shade of a large willow tree. The outdoor environment stimulates the senses with the sounds of birds, the sight of plants and insects, the fragrance of flowers, and various tactile textures. Through frequent outdoor play, children develop an appreciation for nature and gain knowledge about the living world around them, facilitated by dedicated teachers who prepare them to recognize and respect the wonders of nature..

Our calm and nurturing environment is enriched by passionate teachers and high quality Montessori resources that promote independent thinking. All areas of development are fostered here thanks to our well-equipped practical life and sensorial room, language and numbers room and dedicated science and geography spaces.
