Te Puna Reo o Puhi Kaiti is in Gisborne. The centre was established in 2009 as an incorporated society and the whānau are trustees. The vision for the centre is to provide high quality education delivered in te reo Māori. Centre personnel have a good relationship with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Porou and local kura. The centre is teacher-led and whānau contribute to management and governance.

Cornerstone Preschool Philosophy

At Cornerstone Preschool, we offer a welcoming, warm, friendly Christian environment where each child is nurtured. We provide children in our community with an all-inclusive, quality and accessible education that incorporates a Christian foundation and Te Whāriki principles.

We foster strong partnerships with whānau and the local community. We recognise tamariki are gifts from God and acknowledge their uniqueness and the korowai of gifts and talents they bring. We model God’s love for them and our Christian values that will form strong foundations for life.

We support a program that is fun, stimulating, responsive and respectful to the needs of tamariki in a safe environment. We empower and encourage our tamariki to learn, grow and engage whilst strengthening and affirming their interests as individuals as they learn and develop through play.

Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Kaiti Playcentre

Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

We welcome you to visit any time during the year. You are entitled to three free visits so come and check out what we do – we would love to meet you and your family!

Our education programmes like everything we do, are guided by a strong sense of values. This means our tutors and teachers are qualified to New Zealand standards and will treat you with caring, respect and honesty, and behave responsibly towards you and your needs.

We aim to provide an enriching, open, loving and learning environment which encourages children to work alongside their peers.

Our programmes incorporate the principles of Te Whariki – the Early Childhood Curriculum which focuses on the individual child and the relationships they form with people around them.

Staff to child ratios are in accordance with the standards set by the Ministry of Education. and in most cases we will exceed these requirements.

Bilingual Teaching Curriculum

Te Whare Kohungahunga o Y Tamariki is committed to building bilingual and bi-cultural learning environments for tamariki aged 0 – 6 years, that promotes, respects and acknowledges the relationships of both dual partners of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We offer age appropriate learning spaces 0 – 18 months where the learning journey of your tamaiti begins, immersed with aroha (love), Manaakitanga (caring) and whanaungatanga.  Ngā tamariki are provided with a safe space to grow, explore, achieve their milestones and are cared for by knowledgeable Kaiako.

Tamariki 18 months – 3 years are encouraged and supported to be socially, emotionally and physically confident building upon their sense of Whakamana and Manaakitanga.    Tamariki continue their journey of discovering ‘Ko wai au” (Who am I) and are given opportunities to become aware of their own capabilities.

Tamariki 3 years plus experience a fun, challenging and engaging learning environment that supports and encourages the development of skills and knowledge for preparation / transition to kura/school.

Te Kōhanga reo o Te Tihi o Titirangi is at Te Poho o Rawiri marae, Kaiti, Gisborne. It is named after the mountain that sits behind them. The most important focus for the whānau is that mokopuna know that they are loved. Connections to one another and to the marae are a priority.
