Harinui Early Childhood Learning Centre, on the outskirts of Kerikeri, provides care and education for 30 children from birth to approximately three years old. The adjacent Arohanui Early Childhood Learning Centre caters for older children. Most children from Harinui transition to Arohanui. The centres are both under the same family ownership.

The centre philosophy focuses on promoting high quality outcomes for children, and the critical role of working in partnership with parents, families and the community. The philosophies of Magda Gerber and Resources for Infant Educators (RIE), and learning within natural environments also influence the curriculum.

Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of Kerikeri down a private driveway on 47 Hobson Avenue. We have a beautiful outdoor space that is large and inviting and offers our tamariki the opportunity to immerse in nature and discover the wonders of the natural world.

Our centre is locally owned and operated. We offer beautiful, well planned indoor and outdoor spaces that cater to the innate needs of each child within our environment. Our aim is to ensure that every child within this environment is acknowledged for who they are and we foster this uniqueness through our respectful care and authentic relationships with our children, teachers, and whanau. Our goal is to build a strong sense of community within our centre and foster strong connections with our local community.

At Montessori Children’s House, we believe that our children are our future and we need to provide a strong foundation that allows for a child to grow in all areas of their early years. Children need to know that they are valued and respected for who they are and it is our belief that each child at Montessori Children’s House will feel that sense of value within the environment.

In our space, we prioritise our tamariki and their sense of belonging. Our rooms are designed to foster loving and trusting bonds between our infants and toddlers and their kaiako. Our kaiako work closely with whānau to establish excellent routines that support each tamati and ensure their individual needs are met. We strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where relationships are at the core of everything we do. Our tamariki are provided with open-ended resources that encourage them to explore, experiment, and develop their own ideas and create theories about the world around them. We also encourage our tamariki to take risks and challenge themselves, with the support of our kaiako.

We also proudly operate our own Busy Bees centre van, allowing us to help support our centre whānau who require assistance with transport to and from the centre. We also utilise this awesome resource for excursions out and about in our local community, which are always fantastic learning opportunities!

At Kerikeri Playcentre we value child-led learning and have a spacious, safe and richly resourced environment for children to explore their interests.

The curiosity of our tamariki is nurtured through the fun range of experiences we provide. Exploration, messy play, imagination and creativity underpin each of our sessions. From paint to playdough, puzzles, and science equipment, our children are supported to become confident and competent self-directed learners through play based around their interests. We also have a collage area, playhouse, dress-ups, puppets, dollhouse, shop, toys, musical instruments, bikes and scooters, gym and sports equipment, a library, playground, swings, garden, mud kitchen, sandpits, water play and a carpentry area with real tools!

Our child-led curriculum empowers tamariki to gain knowledge through play, participation and positive guidance to learn and grow in a safe, family-supported environment. At Kerikeri Playcentre we celebrate uniqueness and diversity and encourage children to develop a range of strategies and skills to learn and play with others.

At our centre, parents bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment. It’s where families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

Your child will have the freedom to explore and create in a space that supports parents as the first and most valuable educators of their tamariki. We provide a unique early childhood experience where children, parents and families learn together, and we offer free education to assist you on your parenting journey.

Kerikeri Playcentre is open during school terms on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8.45am to 12.45pm for newborns through to 6 year olds. On Friday we also offer a drop-off session with a qualified facilitator designed for tamariki aged 3 years and over.

Te Kōhanga Reo

The kōhanga reo movement is a unique initiative based on total immersion in Māori language and values with the aim of passing on Māori culture to future generations.

Kōhanga reo emphasise the revitalisation of the culture through te reo Māori and are dependent on the active participation of the whole whānau. The kaupapa of kōhanga reo aims to strengthen whānau capabilities in cultural, social, economic, spiritual and political matters. Education, health and wellbeing are inherent within all aspects of the kaupapa. The prime focus is the whānau – its collective development, growth, accountability and wellbeing set within a Māori cultural context.

Kōhanga reo do not regard tamariki in isolation, but as important members of the whānau. The kōhanga reo philosophy is that tamariki will benefit when whānau successfully operate according to the kaupapa. Tamariki are an integral part of whānau development.

The following key goals are the foundation of te kōhanga reo kaupapa established in 1982:

• total immersion in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga in daily operations
• whānau decision-making, management and responsibility
• accountability
• health and wellbeing of mokopuna and whānau.

The key goals of te kōhanga reo assure that there will be:

• security in te reo Māori
• a supportive, caring environment for mokopuna
• whānau (collective) sharing of responsibilities, knowledge and expertise
• greater respect and appreciation of each other.

Our Philosophy

Relationships are the foundation of our philosophy and teaching practices at Inspiring Minds. Children are seen as capable and competent learners, researchers, artists and inventors. No child is the same therefore each child is valued and respected as an individual, within the context of their family/whanau and culture.

The environment we wish to create is one that feels like a home away from home. A positive place where children feel they belong, and where parents know their child is valued and respected as an individual and that their wellbeing is at the forefront of teaching practices.

We believe that children deserve the kind of respect that adults expect from one another. This means the child is at the centre of all interactions, routines, and teaching practices. Every child is treated with respect, they are active participants in care routines, and they know they have a place here. We strive to make learning visible so children, parents, whanau and visitors can see that their child’s contribution is valued and that children really are the centre of our philosophy.

We endeavour to provide an environment that provokes creativity, encourages children to think and wonder, challenges capabilities, and expands a child’s knowledge and understanding across a wide range of experiences. Through up-holding the values of manaakitanga and whanaungatanga we take pride in connecting with our community celebrating the unique identities of our attending families. We are committed to honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We embrace Te Aō Māori and are committed to protecting Te Reo Māori.   We value our partnership with whanau, hapu and iwi and by immersing ourselves and our tamariki we are participating in these values.

We embrace the Enviroschools kaupapa where we empower children, learn for sustainability, honour Māori perspectives, show respect for diversity of people and cultures and nurture sustainable communities. We foster a deep respect for the natural environment and promote protection of Papatūānuku through nature based learning.

The well-being of children is essential. We believe that all children have the right to equitable access to the quality Early Childhood Education regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, ability, socio-economic background or religion. We value communication with families. It is integral to our role in working alongside community for the benefit of our tamariki.

The Kaupapa/ Philosophy at Nurture by Nature encompasses several overlapping concepts.

​These are:

• ​That in order to learn and develop, a child must be secure and happy. 
• From this base,the child can then, with support of well-trained, warm, caring and experienced early childhood teachers, take advantage of, and be stimulated by, a well-presented, child-initiated curriculum.
• The curriculum and practices of the centre will reflect the dual parties of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and be an integral part of our learning community.
• That with the provision of a quality physical environment – children and staff will be uplifted in their play and work, and parents will feel that they have made a good choice for their child.

Rooms

The Kowhai Learning Space

This is where the youngest children in the centre spend their day.  The routines and rhythms of the room are very much a reflection of the children in the room at any one time.  We are committed to building close relationships with children's parents and whanau and providing a warm and welcoming environment where routines are as close as possible to those that children experience in their homes.

Resources are rotated and reflect the interests and cultures of the children in the Kowhai Room.

The Pohutukawa Learning Space

The Pohutukawa Learning Space is where the toddlers and young children spend their day.  The curriculum is child centred and developed around the interests of the children in the room, and supported with resources that are appropriate for the ages of the children and encourage inquiry based learning.

The Kauri Learning Space

This is the learning space where the older children share adventures, learn through self-lead play and foster their curiosity and resilience as citizens of tomorrow.  They lead their learning through the expression of their multiple languages of learning, as they co-construct their applied understanding and development alongside the professional teaching team.

At Springbank Headstart we are proud to offer an exceptional learning environment for five year olds, with no tuition fees.  With a maximum of 20 children and two teachers, the children will build great confidence in their early literacy and numeracy skills, learn about responsibility, develop great friendships and enjoy quality free play and active exploration.  Headstart is a unique high quality transition programme that enables children to develop a love for learning whilst building strong academic capabilities in an enjoyable, friendly environment.

We believe in giving each child the time and space to extend their independence, take on responsibility and explore their individual interests.  At Headstart we seek to extend and enrich young children’s natural abilities; building knowledge and developing their personal skills in a very safe, supportive and caring environment.

At Springbank Preschool we are proud to offer a space for young children where they can ask questions and explore their own working theories, extend their creativity, connect with the environment and take challenges through active learning and quality play.

Here at The Ridge Childcare, we pride ourselves on our huge natural outdoor play space which includes a purpose built whare which enriches our tamariki’s learning of Aotearoa and our culture within our beautiful country. Our different outdoor areas are developed and changed as the children discover new areas of their world.

Manaaki Childcare, an Early Childcare Centre based in Kerikeri with a quiet rural feel. Set back from the road with a great neighborhood where we visit an array of animals. ‘Manaaki’ describes us: welcoming, homely, caring, nurturing - a home away from home.
