This whakatauki has meaning to us as it was said by one of our chiefs, Te Rauparaha.      

Our kindergarten is based in beautiful Elsdon in Porirua, right in the heart of Ngati Toa iwi.  We are fortunate to be close to our local Marae, Takapuwahia and visit the Marae weekly to read stories, sing songs and just hang out.     

The children at Katoa are part of an inclusive environment that acknowledges the importance of social skills and virtues to support children for lifelong learning.                  

We have a large attractive outdoor space with a garden for herbs and veges, and have further developments planned.     

Katoa Kindergarten supports whanau by offering a playgroup for younger children each day, alongside the kindergarten session.  We also run workshops with topics chosen by parents and whanau.

Grow and Learn Early Learning Centre Ltd is a privately-owned service, located in Elsdon, Porirua. It is licensed for 40 children, including 10 up to two years of age. 

A centre manager is responsible for establishing and implementing governance guidelines, systems and processes, and the day-to-day operation of the service. 

The concept of ‘Kotahitanga’ expressed in the centre philosophy guides expectations for a welcoming and safe learning environment. There is a focus on building trusting relationships with children and their families. 

Bright Start Early Learning Centre is in Takapuwahia, Porirua. It provides full-time education and care for children from birth to six years of age, Monday to Friday. 

The centre’s philosophy promotes the celebration of children's culture and identity as they learn in an environment that encourages free play through a programme based on Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum.
