Creating Lifelong Learners

Tamariki natural curiosity is the foundation for exploration and growth. They explore to make sense of the world, develop and have fun. Tamariki start their lives by exploring the world around them. They learn through everything they see, touch, hear, smell, taste and do.

Through play, nga tamariki engage in active learning and exploration. They learn more about their interests and about the world. Most importantly, they learn how to adapt to a changing world. Play helps us remain creative and provokes our imagination.

Our People

Our team at Kids at Home is a dedicated team of individuals who have been chosen for their commitment to provide quality, educational in-home childcare. Kids at Home’s management team also consists of experienced Early childhood professionals and others who have worked within other roles in ECE for many years. We are proud of our positive workplace culture which can be felt as soon as you walk through our office doors!

Playgroups

Playgroup provides your child with a rich learning setting that encourages your child to build a foundation for future learning. Our groups provide your child with the opportunity to mix and make lifelong friends with other tamariki

Music Groups

Music groups provide your child the opportunity to participate in singing, dancing and experiment with musical instruments.

Music is an important part of any child care program. Listening to music, singing, playing musical instruments, and moving to music are all activities that support tamariki development.

Outings and Excursions

Visiting Teachers plan trips to events or places of interest in the community such as fire stations, the zoo, museum, parks etc. (Whanau and friends are welcome to attend).

High Standard of Care

Our Teachers and Educators pride themselves on the quality of care and education each child receives.

We do not limit ourselves to one teaching method or philosophy because we understand that your child is unique. We believe that each child has their own learning style and personality.

Kids at Home’s Visiting Teachers are fully qualified and certificated ECE Teachers with a current practicing certificate from the Teaching Council; our handpicked Teachers have many years of experience and expertise between them.

Kids at Home’s Visiting Teachers support Educators with regular visits and planning for education and development of tamariki.

JeMMa's Home-Based Gate Pa

JeMMa’s Home-based Education and Childcare was founded on the belief that early childhood education plays a major role in a child’s ability to develop skills and learn throughout life.

As a kindergarten teacher, Jenny Tyrrell could see that children who had a focus of learning whilst in a home environment appeared better equipped to learn in the future. As well as this, children who were well socialised with other children of different ages appeared to cope better than others.

It was those two key observations which cemented her belief; that a child, learning with other children, in a homebased environment rather than an institutional environment, was the best way to go. And that’s how JeMMa’s started. The name is derived from a combination of the two directors names, Jenny and Martin.

At JeMMa’s we believe that home-based education and care is the next best alternative to learning at home with Mum or Dad

Children who learn in a comfortable home-based environment seem to develop strong problem solving, social and learning skills. Because they are in a comfortable, uncrowded environment children they get the chance to develop and learn at steady pace with all the help they need.

JeMMa’s children receive lots of one-on-one time with their educator, as well as interaction with other children in different age groups. These are two core components in the development of happy, energetic, sharing, respectful, thoughtful, problem solving and fun loving kids.

Our Philosophy

JeMMa’s is a quality privately owned family focused Homebased Education and Childcare Service that is committed to ensuring that all children, parents, whānau and kaiako are welcomed and encouraged to play an active role in promoting positive outcomes for our learners. We are guided and inspired by Te Whāriki our early childhood curriculum which encourages us to appreciate that children come into the world eager to learn and we see this as a privilege where we can work in partnership with children, parents and whānau to empower our learners through responsive engaging environments and experiences where they can reach their highest potential and develop an enthusiasm for ongoing learning.

Building and sustaining quality learning focused relationships with everyone is the essence to who are and what believe is valuable for outcomes for children and their ongoing wellbeing and development. Our nurturing relationships will be underpinned through our Christian values and connection with people within our service and our wider communities.  Our environments will embrace cultural diversity of Aotearoa and our commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi will be authentic.

We view all children as unique learners where they will have endless opportunities to learn through play and develop a range of knowledge, skills, and learning dispositions. This will spark children’s independence, urge to lead their own learning, social skills, curiosity, creativity, discovery, ability to express themselves and things that are important to them. Our kaiako will dedicate quality time with our children where they will nurture those in the moment opportunities and offer the guidance, support, and encouragement that our learners need to blossom and thrive.

Above and Beyond Gate Pa

Welcome to Above and Beyond Education and Care Centre – Gate Pa. A loving, spacious and safe environment nestled away from the hussle and bussle on Rimu Street, just off Cameron Road. Our childcare centre features three unique areas woven together by a large outdoor playground and garden, all designed to foster a sense of adventure and creative thinking.

Our unique environment is matched with our imaginative learning program built around your child’s interests, challenging them to extend their skills. Our team also maintain close relationships with local schools to ensure your children are well prepared for the road ahead.

We believe children should be immersed in love and childhood is a time for fun and exploration.

Our values are strongly embedded in our practice and because we believe children should be immersed in love, we love unconditionally and intentionally seek the wellbeing of all those associated with the centres. We therefore become intentional in every aspect of the curriculum. Nothing is done by default or without thought and reflection. From the way we create our environment to the resources we choose, how we do our assessments, our interactions with children, whānau and each other are all weighted against this intentional response to promote wellbeing.

It is with this in mind that we have examined theory and current practice in Early Childhood and have chosen to place emphasis on creative thinking and arts based learning at Above and Beyond, as we believe this encompasses a very intentional response to the wellbeing of children and society as a whole.

With the increased knowledge available through IT there is a greater need than ever to process and analyse information, rather than memorizing and rote learning and this requires an ability to think in innovative and productive ways.

Arts based learning recognises the contribution of the arts in developing this level of creative cognitive functioning.

Gate Pa Preschool and Childcare

He waka eke noa

We are all in this waka together

What is special about us:

  • An owner who is passionate and well experienced (30+ yrs) in Early Childhood Education.
  • We are a small family orientated centre (30 children) not a large institution.
  • An outdoor area that inspires children's creativity and imagination.
  • Natural resources while being complimented with technology.

Gate Pa Preschool and Childcare centre is a place that allows children to grow and develop in a loving, secure and happy environment. We opened in October 2012 and continue to be excited to share our centre with families in the community.

Gate Pa Preschool has a specialized baby teacher who is passionate about babies so we are willing to take young infants . Our centre only has 8 under two spaces in the baby room so special attention can be given to their individual needs and routines.

We believe in keeping set teachers in the baby room so that we can develop strong relationships to support both parent and baby in their time with us.

Our older children are catered for with teachers who are passionate about the different age ranges.

Our environment

Purerehua: Our infants and toddlers have been enjoying the nice weather we have been having. We have been using our natural environment to nuture their love for nature. The environment has so many interesting things happening that our toddlers are loving to look, touch, smell and sometimes taste.  Our older toddlers have been enjoying joining the bigger children relishing the challenges of the larger environment.

Ghekos: Building garages and car play has been very popular lately. The children have been helping to prepare the garden so we can plant new vegetables. This has been inspired by the manderin tree being completely full of manderins which the children have been enjoying eating each day.

Taniwhas - Our four year old programme

Welcome to our children/tamariki and

family/whanau of the new Taniwha programme. The taniwha programme is designed for our older children, with a wider range of age appropriate activities, which will enhance those important dispositions necessary for school. They have their own special room set for them.
