Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

Kids Corner has an over Two’s and under Two’s centre and are licensed for 50 children. Their 1-7 ratio in the over Two’s and 1- 3 in the under Two’s. 

Their focus on providing quality trained teachers so that your child receives a balance programme plan based on the early childhood curriculum Te Whariki. A well-established team of teachers who look forward to working with you and your family.

Mill Crescent Kindergarten

At Central Kids Mill Crescent children enjoy a large outdoor playground, with a central grass area. We also have loose parts, water play, climbing boxes, swings, a slide, mudpit, whare taakaro and a big sandpit with a water feature. Our spacious outdoor area allows children to lose themselves in their play, to challenge themselves, to take risks and gain confidence.

We have an interactive bird aviary, a fish tank and worm farm which provides opportunities for children to learn about and how to care for a range of birds and animals. We encourage children to be curious and kind with all living things.

Our extensive grounds include trees, native plants and a vegetable garden, as well as herbs, flowers and fruit. We are part of the Enviroschools programme, and have recently achieved our bronze certificate. This all links with the value we place on te ao Māori, and respect for Papatūānuku.

Central Kids Mill Crescent is inclusive of all ages from 2 years to 6 years of age, and as such we have facilities for nappy changing and assisting children with their transition from nappies to using the toilet.  We set up beds for those children that need to rest or sleep, and offer every child the opportunity to choose their own key teacher to help them settle into kindergarten life. The cornerstone of our philosophy is relationships, and this allows each child to form a secure attachment with their key teacher.

We do regular walking excursions to Firth Primary School, and we are able to do spontaneous walks into the college next door to enjoy the large grass area with the surrounding trees. We are also able to watch all the trains coming going past daily through our back fence bordering the college.

Central Kids Rāwhiti is a well-established kindergarten serving second and third generation families. Relationships are at the heart of all we do. We aspire to be welcoming, respectful and inclusive, fostering a sense of belonging. We welcome parent participation, valuing the partnership between kindergarten and families. Our goal is to create a sense of whanaungatanga and connectedness among the children, whānau, teachers and the wider Matamata community.

The open, airy indoor space of the kindergarten is inviting and allows children the freedom to move which supports our strong music and movement programme. Outdoors, we have areas set up for climbing, sliding, swinging, balancing, as well as a very large outdoor grassed space that provides opportunities for children to run and play physical games. We have a tranquil native garden area with a 45 year old Kauri tree and a worm farm. We take part in the Enviroschools programme and have a strong sustainability focus for children and families.

Central Kids Rāwhiti is an extremely well-resourced kindergarten, providing opportunities for a wide range of experiences that nurture the development of self-expression, self-esteem, confidence, independence, experimentation & exploration, peaceful conflict resolution, numeracy and literacy, problem solving and a sense of fun.

At Matamata Playcentre our tamariki thrive in an environment where they have the freedom to play and explore, are empowered to pursue their own interests, are challenged and extended by parents and caregivers as their kaiako, and are encouraged to co-construct knowledge alongside others as they develop a love of learning. 

We support our tamariki to become independent, self-confident learners as adults and children play, work, learn and grow together.

Located on Farmers road our centre has a huge fully-fenced outdoor area with slides, swings, a massive sand pit, a bike track (we also have a range of bikes) and there’s even a flying fox.

We offer Playcentre’s 16 areas of play, and much more. From blocks to science experiments, art and collage to dancing and music there is bound to be something that your child falls in love with. 

As a Playcentre parent, you can also access Playcentre’s NCEA accredited adult education system free of charge so you can learn about your child’s learning and development and thrive alongside them.

Our supportive parents share knowledge and skills, to provide an environment in which children and their families can flourish.
