New Shoots Matamata Childcare Centre

Conveniently located in the heart of Matamata, New Shoots caters to the rural and farming families who make up this close-knit community. Generous in size and beautifully modern, your tamariki will feel at home in our bespoke early childhood centre.

Our architect was inspired to design a stunning space with a distinct Waikato feel. The building’s striking gabled roof invites families into our spacious rooms which unfold onto gorgeous gardens beyond.

Designed for all-weather play with decks and sheltered spaces, a generous playground and an abundance of natural materials, we view our outdoor space as a little village. Children can move at their own pace, siblings can interact, and infants, toddlers and preschoolers can learn from one another.

Local themes of hunting and farming run deep in our centre and there are endless opportunities to learn through genuine play and self-discovery. We encourage exploration - it is the foundation needed to develop problem solving and perseverance, confidence and resilience.

Here, nurturing and teaching are one in the same and relationships are at the core of everything we do. Many of our teachers grew up in Matamata and we enhance connections to our local community through rest home visits, parents’ nights, and our Christmas parade float.

If you’re a Waikato family searching for an early childhood centre that feels like home, pop into New Shoots Matamata today.

Hinuera Playcentre

Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Hinuera Playcentre

Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

We welcome you to visit any time during the year. You are entitled to three free visits so come and check out what we do – we would love to meet you and your fam

Central Kids Kindergartens - Mill Crescent

Mill Crescent Kindergarten

At Central Kids Mill Crescent children enjoy a large outdoor playground, with a central grass area. We also have loose parts, water play, climbing boxes, swings, a slide, mudpit, whare taakaro and a big sandpit with a water feature. Our spacious outdoor area allows children to lose themselves in their play, to challenge themselves, to take risks and gain confidence.

We have an interactive bird aviary, a fish tank and worm farm which provides opportunities for children to learn about and how to care for a range of birds and animals. We encourage children to be curious and kind with all living things.

Our extensive grounds include trees, native plants and a vegetable garden, as well as herbs, flowers and fruit. We are part of the Enviroschools programme, and have recently achieved our bronze certificate. This all links with the value we place on te ao Māori, and respect for Papatūānuku.

Central Kids Mill Crescent is inclusive of all ages from 2 years to 6 years of age, and as such we have facilities for nappy changing and assisting children with their transition from nappies to using the toilet.  We set up beds for those children that need to rest or sleep, and offer every child the opportunity to choose their own key teacher to help them settle into kindergarten life. The cornerstone of our philosophy is relationships, and this allows each child to form a secure attachment with their key teacher.

We do regular walking excursions to Firth Primary School, and we are able to do spontaneous walks into the college next door to enjoy the large grass area with the surrounding trees. We are also able to watch all the trains coming going past daily through our back fence bordering the college.

Outdoors, we have areas set up for climbing, sliding, swinging, balancing, as well as a very large outdoor grassed space that provides opportunities for children to run and play physical games. We have a tranquil native garden area with a 45 year old Kauri tree and a worm farm. We take part in the Enviroschools programme and have a strong sustainability focus for children and families.
