Miramar Central Kindergarten

Miramar Central Kindergarten reflects New Zealand’s multicultural population, and we are excited to be learning with and from such a diverse community.

We place special importance on developing respectful and reciprocal relationships with our families/ whanau. We are proud of the many ways our families feel empowered to contribute to our programme and work in partnership with us.

We enjoy close relationships with our two neighbouring schools, Miramar Central School and Holy Cross, which most of our children are likely to attend. We have a ratio of 1 teacher to 10 children and a group size of up to 40. We have mixed ages in every session, allowing children to be leaders, teachers, and learners together.

Our diverse teaching team is 100% qualified. With different skills and interests we are able to expose children to varied and exciting learning experiences. We feel proud and privileged to be able to support your child in their learning.

Our daily structure is fluid, with access to indoor and outdoor play readily available. We are fortunate to have a large covered outdoor area, which allows for year round physically-active play, and two gardens, which support learning about the natural world.

We enjoy fortnightly buddy-reading visits from a senior class from Miramar Central School, along with termly visits to and from both Miramar Central School and Holy Cross School.

Miramar North Kindergarten

Miramar North Kindergarten is a fun, friendly, and welcoming place where children’s love of learning grows. We nurture the mana of every child, and we respond to the holistic way in which children learn. At the heart of everything we do are the relationships we have with children, whanau and the wider community.

Our curriculum empowers, inspires, and provokes children to meaningfully lead their own learning individually, alongside and with the support of the teaching team, whanau and peers. Here children learn the skills, knowledge and dispositions to be lifelong learners and socially competent people.

Our large outdoor area is a fantastic asset and children have a variety of interesting spaces to explore.

Our kindergarten is inclusive, responsive, respectful, and nurturing. We show Manaakitanga in our warm and welcoming environment. The diversity and unique qualities that every child brings to our curriculum are celebrated.  We see ourselves as a community of learners and this is reflected in our teaching programme.

Miramar Childcare

Welcome to Miramar Childcare – where learning takes flight.

We are a centre with a difference: we teach only 28 children a day with 5 aged under 2 years.  Our welcoming and cosy house on Broadway, Miramar has an awesome garden and playground that includes a veggie garden, bamboo forest and hobbit house. Our indoor space resembles children’s homes and includes different areas such as the library, our art space, kitchen, and quiet and busy areas- this really is a home away from home.

Our children aged 6 months to 5 years learn together in a tuakana teina inspired mixed age philosophy. Our child-led curriculum encourages our tamariki to be confident and curious learners and follow their intersrs. At different times during the day, we offer special programmes for individual age groups to challenge and extend their thinking and learning such as transition to school preparation, infant mat times, carpentary with real tools etc.

Our kaiako/ teachers are passionate, professional, and committed to making Miramar Childcare a wonderful and welcoming space for you, your child, and your greater whanau.

As an Enviroschool we are passionate about caring for our environment and encompass this into our daily lifestyle. Our children are engaged in forest sessions, vegetable gardening, gardening, recycling, and community tidy ups.

Get in touch to enquire or come and pay us a visit! We’d love for you to come and join us and be a part of our MCC whanau.

Tuatara Kids Tuakana

Inspired by Gerber, Pikler, Bronfenbrenner and Vygotsky, Tuatara Kids is a homely learning space for all. Our localised curriculum and programme are led by children's interests, designed in partnership with parents’ aspiration, to support our children to reach their full potential.

Tuatara Kids is a homely place of learning, where children’s interests and abilities are inspired and nurtured. We are led by our tamariki, to provide an environment and programme which support them to learn and grow.

Our culture is to build respectful and honest relationships, working in partnership with parents and whanau to meet their unique aspirations for their child.

Tuakana-Teina relationship is a model of buddy system that is recognised in a traditional Maori society. We foster this method of learning in our environment where we embraces the value of ako.

Respectful and genuine relationships promote a secure and positive sense of belonging in our learning space, which we believe encourages the best learning outcome for our children.

Miramar Playcentre

Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Miramar Playcentre

Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

We welcome you to visit any time during the year. You are entitled to three free visits so come and check out what we do – we would love to meet you and your family!

Kidz Corner Miramar

Kidz Corner Miramar is a long established, community based childcare centre. It provides high quality early childhood education and care in a safe and welcoming environment reflecting the routines and customs of home.

Our experienced teaching team establish strong relationships with parents which foster a link for families between home and centre. Our curriculum is at the forefront of our programme, incorporating the national Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whariki and Christian values and beliefs which lay the foundations for children's lifelong learning.

PHILOSOPHY

Our centre philosophy reflects the values, beliefs, and aspirations of our community.

We embrace the Christian principles of care and support for each other.

Our programme is guided by Te Whāriki.

Our curriculum encourages and empowers tamariki of all abilities to learn through play.

We recognise that our unique bicultural heritage is founded on the three principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, of partnership, participation, and protection.

We acknowledge our Māori tamariki and their whānau as tangata whenua.

We believe that the foundations for respectful relationships are modelled on Gods relationship with us and are expressed through love, joy, patience, faithfulness, peace, kindness, gentleness, and self-control.

We believe God has gifted us this planet. As kaitiaki it is our responsibility to foster in the tamariki a love and respect for the natural environment through the principles of kotahitanga and kaitiakitanga.

Ultimately,

We believe childhood is a fun time where there should be sprinklers in summer, face paint and bubbles, and time to dream, explore and create.

  • Tamariki – children
  • Whānau – family
  • Tangata Whenua - original inhabitants of New Zealand
  • Kaitiaki – guardian or trustee
  • Kotahitanga – for the good of all (unity)
  • Kaitiakitanga - guardianship

Montessori Childrens House - Wellington

Welcome to Montessori Children’s House an authentic Montessori in Miramar, Wellington.

Our philosophy..

The teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori provide the foundation on which our Montessori Children’s House is built. Strong relationships between staff, parents and children are the framework within which we build a respectful, welcoming, nurturing community. We strive to be sensitive and responsive to the different cultures and heritages among our families.

Staff share a strong sense of commitment to the Montessori Principles supported by the NZ Early Childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki and provide a high quality programme that acknowledges and reflects The Treaty of Waitangi.

Our Montessori environment is designed to foster independence, responsibility, self-directed learning, self-worth and identity. In this way children are supported to believe in themselves, to explore, learn and discover.

At Montessori Children’s House the environment is calm, co-operative and of a mixed age.  The atmosphere allows for collaboration, role modelling and learning of both social and moral behaviour.

Older children in the class can often be seen working with the younger ones, so mentoring comes as much from peers as it does from the adult teachers in the classroom.

Being outdoors is very important. Children develop gross motor skills as they climb, jump and swing and also social skills as they take turns on equipment. Maria Montessori believed strongly that children should be in touch with the substance of their world, encouraging work with gardening, digging, and building little houses etc.
