Our philosophy
Selwyn House Pre-school has an outstanding reputation in early childhood education. Our unique programme is based on the world-renowned Reggio Emilia approach and complimented by the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and the Te WhÄriki Curriculum. It celebrates the natural wonder and curiosity of children and fosters a life-long love of learning.
We recognise that our unique bicultural heritage is founded in the Te Tiriti o Waitangi and that our tamariki have the right to experience the languages, music, art and stories and cultures of Aotearoa. Selwyn House Pre-school will honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi by representing MÄori views and choices and their place as Tangata Whenua.
We believe that learning during the early years of life is critical for the development of the whole person and our inquiry-based programme reflects the interests of the tamariki and encourages them to take responsibility for their own learning.
Our teachers believe strongly in a child with unlimited potential who is eager to interact with, and contribute to the world around them. Every day we remind ourselves of one of the core elements of our philosophy, which is the belief in the child as a capable individual full of curiosity about his or her world.
