A little about us

Welcome to our Playcentre

We have a fantastic centre at Blake Park in Mount Maunganui. We have a great space with plenty of activities and equipment. Outside is a shaded play area with plenty of grass and trees, along with swings, slides, a playhouse and a large sandpit full of diggers, buckets and hoses! Inside you will find family play, craft, puzzles, dress ups, musical instruments, blocks, books and much more.

At Mount Playcentre, we offer five morning sessions, Monday through Friday. Each day’s session is run by a different team made up of parents and grandparents. We strongly believe in the Playcentre slogan “Whanau Tupu Ngatahi – families growing together”, so we welcome whanau, parents, grandparents, uncles and aunties to come and play alongside the children. If you sign up, you become a team member for one of the days, but you are welcome to attend other day sessions as many of our members do attend more than one morning.

Children learn through play!! So here at Playcentre we have 16 different areas of play set up to cater for different interests, skills, ages and abilities. This keeps the children very interested and busy each morning and allows them free play where they can come and go from the activities that interest them.

Each session is supervised by a trained and qualified Playcentre Supervisor who, along with the team of parents, offer sessions that cater for all age groups. We are a family-friendly centre and parent/family member(s) attend with their children so it is a social time for children and adults as well. You are also supported if you have young babies as there are plenty of parents to help with older children. It’s a great way to spend time with your children, while socialising them and enabling them to learn from a unique environment.

We have regular field trips to the beach, bushwalks, fire stations etc. and social events, which our families can get involved in. We also support parent education within the centre, offering courses and workshops that parents can attend.

Feel free to pop in and visit us! You are welcome to come and try a few different days to find the one that suits you and your children.

We are located at the corner of Miro Street and Kawaka Street. Drive into the car park and you will see our building next to the Squash Club Building.
