A little about us

Hillcrest Kindergarten is a community based educational provider in Kaikohe. We are based on the corner of Hillcrest and Park Roads and have been part of the community since 1955.

We are a kindergarten that is culturally diverse. Our families belong to several ethnic groups and our common theme is respecting and looking after each other. He wahi maanaki tenei mo tatou katoa.

We are going to be open all year from 2020. This means that your family will be able to access the high quality programme we currently run for 48 weeks a year. This opportunity came about because NKA and the teachers, are aware that there are many within the community that require a service in what would usually be school holidays breaks. Families will continue to have a choice around when their child attends and will not lose their position at kindergarten if they chose to only attend a few of the extra days.

Our programme is woven within the Principals and Strands of Te Whaariki, the Early Childhood Curriculum He Whaariki Matauranga mo nga Mokopuna o Aotearoa. It is an exciting sector to be involved in and teachers aim to follow children’s strengths and interests to stimulate and extend their learning within these dimensions.

You will find four very dedicated teachers who are qualified and registered who work hard to enhance learning opportunities for your tamariki. Our ratio is 1-10. We also have a very dedicated support staff/admin person, who is also our cook. We provide morning tea and cooked lunches for all our children each day. We also have a qualified lunch cover so this means we are a 100% qualified teaching staff.

We are part of the Kidscan trial for ECE so we are able to supply all kai at no cost. We are also part of the Northland DHB initiative around teeth brushing once a day in the kindergarten. The dental team visit us once a term to monitor the children’s teeth and to ensure they get treatments if needed. The DHB supply all the resources required for this to happen.

We are looking for children to join our waiting list and pride ourselves on an open door policy for all whaanau/families community and visitors so please feel free to call in, email or phone us. Welcome Haere mai Piki mai Kake mai.
