Our Vision
‘Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia o tatou mahi"
"Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work’ is the whakataukī that guides us to support and encourage the growth of each individual child as competent, confident and capable life-long learners.
We all enable the individual children to guide us on their learning journey by celebrating every child’s unique qualities to ignite and spark their curiosity, wonderment and awe of their surrounding world. We believe it is crucial to work in partnership with our whānau and tamariki to create a sustainable and special taonga that is Beach Kids Waihi
"Te Kaupapa"
Our Philosophy
Our guiding whakataukī at Beach Kids Waihi is ‘Ko te ahurei o te tamaiti arahia o tatou mahi - Let the uniqueness of the child guide our work’ which is the foundation and grounding that guides us in everything that we do. It is the anchor to which all our practice aligns, weaves, flows and integrates together to affirm our knowledge, beliefs and aspirations of whānau, kaiako, Ministry of Education, Te Whāriki, and tamariki.
We aim to respect and celebrate each child as the wonderfully unique individual in which they are and we can see the unique contribution each child brings with their qualities and beliefs, interests, and view on the surrounding world around them creating our very own Beach Kids Waihi community that focuses on the following four kawa/ values pou (pillars):
Tahi - "Kaitiakitanga"
We appreciate the intrinsic interconnection of the natural world, and we instill in children a focus as kaitiaki of Papatūānuku.
We as Kaiako role model how to care for our environment and be guardians and protectors of our environment and everything within it.
We appreciate a natural environment enabling the children to develop connections with Papatūānuku and all of the wonderment and awe nature can bring to each individual.
Rua - "Whanaungatanga"
We acknowledge that each child and their whānau have a unique understanding of the world and work together to build effective and lasting relationships to create a partnership in their children’s learning is integral in order to develop a rich and responsive environment for each individual child.
We respect the importance and the privilege to be enabled to build connections and lasting relationships with whanau and tamariki as well as with our environment and community.
Toru - "Takitahi"
We acknowledge and respect that we are all different and unique individuals and ensure we celebrate the children’s individuality throughout the centre programs. We believe that creating a place of turangawaewae at Beach Kids Waihi is crucial for the learning and development of our young children.
We believe in celebrating who each child is and encouraging individuals to celebrate who they are enabling every child to develop a sense of belonging and mana of who they are and what they individually identify and stand for. Setting great strong foundations for every individual child to carry with them throughout their lives.
Wha - 'Marau Mātauranga"
We recognise the early years are of vital importance in laying the foundational skills and pathways for life and throughout our program we explore the different aspects and integration of Te Whāriki to guide our daily programs.
Through a balance of free play and intentional teaching strategies to ensure the children have the space to explore, develop a sense of belonging, build relationships and feel the security where their well-being is nurtured. We endeavor to create a curriculum that is created by following the individual children’s interests and combining the passions of the kaiako where the child is showered in confidence that their uniqueness will be fostered and uplifted.
