Te Whare Whai Hua

For Young Parents

Teen parents have a greater responsibility to continue their education than before as they now have a child who is dependent upon them to be cared and provided for.

Te Whare Whai Hua is specially set up to enable young parents to continue their studies and to gain valuable qualifications for their future.

• Established in 2002
• Te Whare Whai Hua is located at Lytton High School
• Childcare is situated on the same site as the TPU
• We cater for 13-19 year olds.
• We can cater for up to 30 students and the childcare is licensed for 50 children.
• Transport and a breakfast programme is available for students
• A medical centre can be accessed through the host school
• We also have a social worker on site for 3 days a week

Transport and childcare provision is available to eliminate those barriers that may stop young parents from continuing with their education.

The programme is flexible and can cater for all levels and abilities and is offered in a supportive whānau atmosphere with other young parents.
