Kia ora koutou,
Playcentre operates as a parent co-op. Playcentre are families – mothers, fathers, caregivers and children. We believe that the responsibility of pre-school education of our children rests with us, the parents/caregivers. Here the children belong to a group larger than their families, play with both familiar and new types of equipment, and will get used to playing with, and alongside other children. Our general session is where all parents/caregivers share the responsibility of running the session.
Children learn best in a situation where they are free to be themselves in a happy atmosphere where people accept them for what they are. The child’s caregiver is the most important person in their life, and the best learning situation exists if that person is somewhere near. They like to know that you are there if they need you, and that they have your support. Often being at Playcentre is enough.
- Playcentre is a place for caregivers to bring children of preschool age to come and interact and play with other children.
- Playcentre believes the child’s parents/caregivers are the best educators. The whole family is welcome to learn and grow together as each of us has skills and strengths.
- Playcentre is the answer for parents who wish to stay with their children to play and learn about each other in an adult and child friendly environment.
Our current session times are Tuesday and Thursday morning’s from 9am to 12 noon.
We have great facilities at Opotiki Playcentre, so feel free to drop in for a visit and check us out!
