Our programme...
Our programme emerges from the interests of the children, viewing play as the finest form of learning. It is within their play that children develop essential skills, patterns of behaviour and attitudes as to how they see themselves as learners. These dispositional traits (for example persistence and curiosity plus many, many more) are carried with children (and adults) throughout life and give us the true essence of who we are as learners - intellectually, socially and emotionally. Our team of dedicated, experienced teachers have a strong understanding of child development and dispositional learning, working closely with whānau to strengthen how children see themselves as learners.
Our programme has a strong bicultural feel, cherishing manaakitanga, tikanga, te reo Māori and whanaungatanga as we honour our bicultural partnership.
Relationships are at the core of our programme. Our teachers place great importance on fostering independence, interdependence, tuakana-teina, and healthy relationship skills. Children are guided to resolve differences with their peers, with discussions of feelings and caring for one another as common practice. Resilience, confidence and courage are fostered within children, as they learn skills to make choices for themselves and self-regulate their own behaviour.
Our teachers make mindful choices as to how the environment is presented and in their positioning, so as to allow children the time and space to question and explore their world around them and fully explore their capabilities. Children are encouraged to care for their environment, refreshing areas of play to create beauty for themselves and others.
