A little about us

At Hawera Kindergarten we believe:

  • The paua and it’s beautiful shell inspires our thinking about learners
  • The paua needs a healthy environment and time to grow.
  • It also needs protection and
  • It needs a rock (a firm foundation) to anchor itself to.
  • It is often exposed to changes in its environment – tides, weather, water – but survives because of its firm foundation.
  • It should be valued for it’s potential as a source of food and the shells beauty.
  • It takes time and effort to reveal it’s inner beauty.

Nga mihi ki nga whānau

  • Whānau are welcome at kindergarten sessions and events and will be encouraged to contribute in their own way and time, and be involved in the programme and their child’s learning.
  • We tautoko whānau in their role as parents/caregivers.
  • We recognise and value the skills and experiences whanau can bring to our programme/kindergarten.
  • We recognise and value the uniqueness of all whānau.

Nga mihi ki nga taiao

The kindergarten environment:

  • Is calm, welcoming, engaging and challenging.
  • reflects the creative process of the children’s endeavors and learning.
  • inspires, facilitates discoveries and promotes problem solving.
  • Conveys  knowledge and understanding.
  • Is  inclusive of all cultures with particular regard to the Māori culture.

We have wonderful park-like grounds where children can run, play, climb, learn and explore
