Picton - Waitohi Picton Kindergarten is a place where children and their whanau experience an environment that reflects the diverse and unique nature of Picton and Marlborough Sounds. Whanaungatanga - Relationships Teachers will form and maintain secure relationships with children, their families and whanau. This the most important objective for the staff at Picton Kindergarten. We will provide a warm, welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable and safe. We will encourage parent and whanau involvement in all aspects of our Kindergarten. We create a learning environment beyond the kindergarten walls and have strong connections with local iwi (tribe), schools, groups and organisation. Mou moku mo nga iwi katoa - For you for me for all the people As citizens of Aotearoa New Zealand we celebrate and promote the dual culture of New Zealand and aim to uphold the spirit and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We promote elements of te ao Maori (the Maori world) including te reo Maori me nga tikanga-a-iwi (the Maori language and practices of our local tribe). We encourage the sharing of knowledge and culture and embrace diversity. We acknowledge the strengths and abilities children and families bring to the Kindergarten. Kaitiakitanga – Conservation We value our relationship with nature and the need to conserve our natural resources. We are an Enviroschool and follow the guiding principles on empowering children and learning for sustainability. We are active members of Kaipupu Point Wildlife Sanctuary and Dawn Chorus, which involves planting trees in the sanctuary and hands on learning about pest control and preserving native birds and plants.
