A little about us

Haere mai, welcome to Newtown Kindergarten. We offer your family a wonderful warm learning experience. Our established kindergarten is just off Adelaide Road near the hospital. It is large and light with a spacious outdoor area.

We provide activities such as gardening, composting, tree-climbing, swinging, and sand and water play. We also have a physical challenge course and an amazing fort.

Inside, we have areas for quiet activities such as reading and puzzles, and a small room for family and dramatic play. We have spaces for exploring literacy, numeracy, construction, and music and movement, and a range of art experiences.

Our early childhood curriculum, Te Whariki is bicultural, and we weave aspects of Te Ao Maori and Te Reo Maori (the Maori world view and the Maori language) into our programme.

We encourage children to take responsibility for their own learning.  Children develop skills in relationships, problem solving, co-operation, and qualities such as curiosity, perseverance, concentration, empathy, courage, and trust.

Our five qualified registered teachers range from recent graduates to those with long experience, and we have a part-time administrative support person.

Children start around three years of age and most attend for three days, a week, but can attend up to five days by arrangement. We are open for 48 weeks of the year.
