Each room is a treasure trove of opportunity for young minds. The under-3 space is a captivating fusion of diverse learning areas, including a beautifully landscaped outdoor space. This serene haven provides a peaceful environment where moments of care are pivotal to learning and development, cultivating a sense of safety, respect, and emotional nurturing crucial for the youngest members of the Co Kids whānau.
Adjacent to the kitchen lies the Pre-School space, a dynamic world catering to all areas of the curriculum. A large, inviting outdoor area enhances the setting, promoting an inquiry-based approach that caters to the boundless curiosity of preschool-aged children.
At Co Kids, learning isn't confined to the structure of formal education. Instead, it is intertwined into the everyday experiences of the child through open-ended play opportunities. A plethora of resources and environments are offered that challenge and nurture their cognitive, physical, and emotional capabilities. These enriching experiences lay a solid foundation for their future development.
The team at Co Kids is deeply passionate about their mahi. They believe in fostering curiosity, creativity, and individuality and are committed to providing an environment that reflects these values. However, this is not a journey they undertake in isolation. They recognise the significance of the family and the wider community, integrating their invaluable contributions to provide enriching opportunities for the children.
As a New Zealand owned and operated centre, Co Kids embodies a vision of high-quality early childhood education within an innovative and creative environment. It sees itself as an active partner in shaping a robust community for the future, one child at a time. This commitment to their vision is what sets Co Kids apart as a priceless asset to the West Auckland community and to Aotearoa as a whole.
Our approach at Co Kids is centered on nurturing respectful relationships and supporting natural development through the freedom of movement. Inspired by the Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE) philosophy, founded in 1978 by Magda Gerber, an infant specialist, and Tom Forrest, a paediatric neurologist, along with insights from Emmi Pikler, a paediatrician who revolutionized infant education in Hungary, we create a nurturing space for every child.
At our centre, caregiving routines are structured so children understand what’s happening next, allowing them to actively participate. We respect the preferences of our older children by avoiding situations they find uncomfortable. Instead of traditional whole group activities, we focus on the benefits of small group interactions where children voluntarily engage in turn-taking, conversations, and question-and-answer sessions.
This method emphasizes building secure, trusting, and respectful relationships across all age groups, ensuring that each child feels safe, heard, and valued. Our environment is designed to meet children's needs and boost their confidence as unique individuals.
