A little about us

In Henderson, Auckland, on Lincoln Road, you'll find this contemporary centre. It's dedicated to the well-being of our young tamariki, as shown by its emphasis on nutritious, sugar-free food in its menu.

As you enter Co Kids, you encounter two distinct yet seamlessly connected spaces, smartly separated by a modern, professionally equipped kitchen. The enticing aroma of fresh, nutritious kai wafts through the air, each meal thoughtfully prepared daily by the centre's dedicated onsite cook.

Each room is a treasure trove of opportunity for young minds. The under-3 space is a captivating fusion of diverse learning areas, including a beautifully landscaped outdoor space. This serene haven provides a peaceful environment where moments of care are pivotal to learning and development, cultivating a sense of safety, respect, and emotional nurturing crucial for the youngest members of the Co Kids whānau.

Adjacent to the kitchen lies the Pre-School space, a dynamic world catering to all areas of the curriculum. A large, inviting outdoor area enhances the setting, promoting an inquiry-based approach that caters to the boundless curiosity of preschool-aged children.

At Co Kids, learning isn't confined to the structure of formal education. Instead, it is intertwined into the everyday experiences of the child through open-ended play opportunities. A plethora of resources and environments are offered that challenge and nurture their cognitive, physical, and emotional capabilities. These enriching experiences lay a solid foundation for their future development.

The team at Co Kids is deeply passionate about their mahi. They believe in fostering curiosity, creativity, and individuality and are committed to providing an environment that reflects these values. However, this is not a journey they undertake in isolation. They recognise the significance of the family and the wider community, integrating their invaluable contributions to provide enriching opportunities for the children.

As a New Zealand owned and operated centre, Co Kids embodies a vision of high-quality early childhood education within an innovative and creative environment. It sees itself as an active partner in shaping a robust community for the future, one child at a time. This commitment to their vision is what sets Co Kids apart as a priceless asset to the West Auckland community and to Aotearoa as a whole.

philosophy

In broad terms the theory revolves around respectful relationships and natural development through freedom of movement. Resources for Infant Educarers (RIE), was founded by Magda Gerber, an infant specialist and educator and Tom Forrest, a paediatric neurologist in 1978. Emmi Pikler was a paediatrician who introduced and practiced new theories in infant education at an orphanage she ran in Hungary.

Caregiving routines are conducted so that your child is aware of what is about to happen and free to participate in the process to their full level of capability. With older children we don't put them into situations that they find uncomfortable or don't want to be in. Whole group 'mat-times' are not enforced and reciprocal relationship concepts like turn-taking, conversation, asking and responding to questions are found to be more enriching and fulfilling in small group gatherings where participation is voluntary. Emphasis is placed on building trusting, respectful relationships with all age groups and creating an environment where children feel secure, confident of their needs being met and valued as individuals.
