A little about us

We believe that children should be Free-Range.  Learning in partnership with kaiako and nature in a free-play environment, children get to experience the entire spectrum of education, from self regulation to social competence, from numeracy, and science and engineering to literacy and the arts.  The environment nurtures a child holistically, emotionally, spiritually, physically and cognitively. Working within our beautiful bicultural curriculum inspired and based upon Te Whāriki, our national Early Childhood curriculum, we have identified 'what matters here' in our own special and unique context that ensures optimum learning outcomes for tamariki.

Forest schools have been adapted from a Scandinavian approach to learning that originated in Sweden in the 1950's.  Their well documented success in educating children holistically has led to an increase in Forest schools all over the world.  As this gains momentum in New Zealand, we are excited to pioneer this concept in the beautiful Waikato town of Cambridge!
