A positive foundation for learning
During these early years children acquire a variety of important skills that help them learn, and develop relationships with others in order to successfully participate in school life.
ACG Sunderland Early Learning school encourages children to see learning as enjoyable and useful. We provide a strong and caring foundation for their intellectual, physical and social development.
The ACG Sunderland Early Learning school is licensed for 24 children, with a teacher–child ratio of one to eight. This ensures close quality of care and education for all our children.
About us
Our Preschool equips students with the fundamental skills to thrive at Primary School, with a strong focus on language-based activities that provide formal and informal opportunities for thinking, problem solving and experimenting.
Early childhood curriculum
Our preschool provides children with the fundamental skills required to succeed at primary school. With oral language forming the basis of literacy, we put an emphasis on language-based activities that provide opportunities for thinking, problem-solving and experimenting. Through opportunities to listen and respond to stories, children are encouraged to attempt independent writing and reading.
Staff plan for the children’s learning using the models provided by Te Whariki, the Ministry of Education’s Early Childhood Curriculum and Kei tua o Te Pae, the Narrative Assessment, using Learning stories to provide a ‘where to now’ for individual children. All children and their families have the opportunity to contribute to their online portfolios at any time.
Learning is a pleasurable experience
The Preschool programme reinforces and builds on a child’s natural inclination to learn by offering varied, stimulating and enjoyable learning experiences. Activities
Our children experience a range of activities both at the preschool and out in the community. These activities enhance their education and align with our holistic approach to learning. Visitors may include police officers, St John Ambulance staff, firefighters, and even guide dogs and their handlers. Students also enjoy visits to the museum, preschool graduation ceremonies, Christmas parties and other trips.
