A little about us
"Our humble beginnings Established in 1990, as a Samoan Language Nest within the grounds of the Pacific Islands Presbyterian Church. Over 25+ years’ experience in daily child care, preserving the Samoan culture and language in our curriculum. We care for children aged 6mths – 5 years old, operating hours are Monday to Friday 7am-5pm. Secluded area on the church grounds (not on main roads - hardly any traffic) we also have access to a full indoor court and fully equipped playground area (includes sand pit) and plenty of parking while you pick up and drop off your kids. *Work and Income Approved and 20 hours free ECE. OUR CURRICULUM There are four principles guiding learning & development: 1) Empowerment / Whakamana 2) Holistic Development / Kotahitanga 3) Family & Community / Whanau Tangata 4) Relationships / Nga Hononga Five strands arise encouraging children to: 1)Take an interest (Exploration) 2) Communicate with others (Communication) 3) Persist with difficulty (Well-being) 4) Be involved (Contribution/Belonging) 5) Take responsibility Te Whariki is based on the aspirations that children grow up: ​ as competent and confident learners and communicators. healthy in mind, body and spirit. secure in their sense of belonging. secure in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society​​. Because learning happens everywhere and all the time, the connections children make about their learning between home and their child care centre helps them build strong learning foundations. Our centre environments are set up to encourage children to explore a range of curriculum areas including: ​ Culture & Language Expressive Arts – drama, music and dance Family & Community Literacy & Numeracy Outdoor Play Science & Technology School Readiness Puataunofo Aoga Amata’s curriculum is based on the principles of New Zealand’s national early childhood curriculum, Te Whariki. ​ Te Whariki provides a foundation for children to become confident and competent lifelong learners. In particular, we focus on children’s learning competencies as advocated by Te Whariki."
