Tiny Voices Napier

We believe that children learn and develop in an early childhood environment where the teacher has a respectful image of children as being competent and capable young people. The teachers role is a co-researcher and co- constructor in the learning process which allows children to explore, question, reflect, problem solve, theorise and encourage self-expression.

Our programming is based on observing children on a regular basis, evaluating their needs and planning activities from these observations. Each child will be guided to develop at an individual pace according to his or her unique, individual way. Programmes are founded on the guiding principles of Te Whaariki the early childhood curriculum from the Ministry of Education and ideas, practices and values from Reggio Emilia.

We practice and preach multicultural and non-gender stereotyped behaviour. We belive that play is central to children’s development and provide opportunities for both structured and spontaneous activities. Play is a child’s unique way to learn about their world. We aim to provide opportunities for boys and girls to play freely regardless of any stereotype roles they may choose.

We endeavour to provide an atmosphere that is warm, accepting and welcoming to both children and their families.

OUR MISSION

Tiny. Tiny is small, sure. But the world is made of tiny things. Tiny things that make life great.

We believe in empowering our children with the joy of learning. To find a sense of courage, to nurture the love of play and creativity, to find their voice but to hear and understand others too.

Tiny Voices is an early learning centre but it’s also a community hub. A place where people can come together. To be heard and to listen. To play and to relax. A place to learn and a place to teach.

A place where small things make a big difference. Tiny Voices. Our learning journey starts here.

Montessori 3-6 Trilingual Early Childhood Education

Montessori 3-6 is New Zealand's first Trilingual Montessori Pre-School and the only one offering English, Te Reo and Spanish to children in Hawke's Bay. As New Zealand becomes more diverse it is crucial that our children learn about other languages and cultures from an early age so they become respectful of everyone.

English - Our team support children to develop their oral language and children who stay for news have opportunities to learn to listen, speak and respond in a positive, supportive environment. We start following the children's interest using a phonics approach and lots of Montessori games that making learning fun. We have a sequential range of specific Montessori materials for gifted learners that lead to spelling, writing and reading providing a solid foundation before school.

Te Reo - To give children an appreciation of te reo as a living and relevant language and an official language of Aotearoa. Our teaching team all have specific Montessori materials that they teach our children as per the goal sheets in their individual Te Reo curriculum books.   Te Rangihau Gilbert visits Tuesday afternoons with his guitar to teach waiata and Kapa Haka.

Spanish - To give children an introduction to an international language. Spanish is an official language in 22 countries making it the second most spoken language in the world! Ana Silvia is our native speaker and teaches all day Wednesdays.

Fun, Friendship, Learning

At Montessori 3-6 we have created a culture where children teach and learn from each other. Here the children are playing a game called "What's missing?". They are learning the names of each of the 3D objects that are part of the geometry materials in our Sensorial curriculum. Parents are often astounded when they hear their children naming cylinder, cube, pyramid, cone, sphere, ovoid and ellipsoid.

Children are inspired to learn through the Montessori materials and empowered to teach their friends and other children who need or want help. This allows them to contribute to their community.

Developing Concentration

Children at Montessori 3-6 gather briefly each morning for karakia and waiata in English, Te Reo & Spanish followed by Montessori three hour work cycles  between 9 to 12 and again after lunch from 1 to 4.pm. They have complete indoor/outdoor flow and can choose to use any of the activities they have been shown. Research shows that by not interrupting children you allow their concentration to develop. Children take a mat to define their workspace. They have the freedom to work by themselves, in pairs or with a group of friends.

Our children love to repeat activities and teach others. When they have finished children learn to return their activity to the shelf ready for another child to choose/use. They learn they have the right to choose activities and the responsibility to respect them and put them back in the right place. Contact us for more information

Kindy Daycare Childcare Literacy Spelling Alphabet writing

Sequential Montessori Materials

At Montessori 3-6 our environment is filled with opportunities for children to develop their oral language. We play "I Spy" games with objects to help children associate initial sounds with things they know. Then we introduce the sandpaper letters to teach the formation of letters and the sounds they can make. Once children know half of the sounds of the alphabet we introduce our large moveable alphabet and pink work which is 3 letter phonetic words (pictured above). Ask us to show you the blue and green work (phonograms) that follows when you visit. This work lays the foundation for spelling, writing and reading. When children have mastered the correct pencil grip they are offered writing books inside and outside and are free to write as often as they wish. News is at before lunch each day and at 5pm as opportunities for children to develop their oral language skills and self confidence talking to and participating in a group.

Nature in Action

Some of our children spend the majority of their time outdoors. There are a multitude of opportunities provided. They love gardening, growing their own spring flowers from bulbs and in September their own sunflowers from seed, observing our swan plants and the life cycle of monarch butterflies, making their name with their own unique box of sandpaper letters, finding bugs, playing in the autumn leaves, kicking the rugby ball, feeding our food scraps to the worms in our worm farm, climbing and swinging from trees, playing tag, riding the bikes, tractor and scooters, playing cricket and tball, choosing from the shelves, painting, swinging on the wobbly bridge, reading at the rainbow table, balancing on the triangle of logs and making volcanoes in the sandpit.
