A little about us

A CBD Childcare Centre (Te Wharemarie Tamariki) is a not-for-profit incorporated society in central Wellington providing care and education for children aged 6 months to 5 years old.

We welcome all children and families. Our community organisation was established in 1987 to provide casual care in the inner city, but as time went by, there was greater demand for full-time care for children in the CBD area.

The Centre is governed by a parent/whanau committee. Te Wharemarie Tamariki means “The Children’s House of Peace”. Children are cared for in an environment that nurtures, protects, and encourages learning.

One of the major benefits of our Centre is that we have close access to a wide range of environment that include the waterfront, Te Papa museum, Capital E, Civic Centre to name just a few. We do regular excursions and promote education outside of the classroom (EOTC).

The learning environment encompasses the principles and strands of Aotearoa New Zealand’s Early Childhood Education curriculum known as Te Whariki.

We are strongly committed to providing a calm, unhurried and stimulating environment for all our children.
