Our Mangere centre was the first Living and Learning Family Centre to open. Officially unveiled by Prime Minister, Hon John Key on 8 October 2009, it first opened its doors to families in the Favona area some months before that.
With the assistance of a substantial discretionary grant from the Ministry of Education towards the cost of the building, we created a modern, light bright centre with five classrooms to accommodate up to 113 children from 3 months to five years old.
A further generous grant allowed us to create a fabulous playground, which is hugely popular with the children that attend the centre. With the ability for year round playing, there are climbing apparatus, a vegetable garden, covered decks, bures, a sandpit and much more.
The centre is extremely well resourced and has a fun, caring and nurturing environment that allows children to learn in a way that is best suited to them as individuals.
As well as the early childhood element, there are two dedicated community rooms where Plunket, budgeting advice, smear testing etc takes place. There are also regular visits from the mobile library to the centre.
We also run workshops on a range of topics such as communication skills, adult literacy, healthy lifestyles, child protection and more.
Our on site community services coordinator can assist you with referrals to a wide range of support services and information about up and coming workshops.
