Kauri Kids Glenfield

As part of the Glenfield Leisure Centre, our children enjoy regular access to the centre's facilities, including the swimming pool and the ActivZone skating rink. We also provide additional opportunities for children to get active by taking them on trips to local parks.

Why choose Kauri Kids?

At Kauri Kids, we believe that with the right nurturing all tamariki can be as mighty as the kauri tree. Our goal is to enable our tamariki and their whānau to develop the skills they need to reach their potential and live a healthy and prosperous life. Kauri Kids' vision and values:

Our commitment to sustainability.

We empower tamariki to care for the environment so they can become kaitiaki (custodians), use resources wisely, and take an active role in fighting climate change. Each centre has its own environmental initiatives. These could include:

  • using cloth wipes and nappies instead of disposables
  • wet bags instead of plastic bags
  • worm farming and composting food scraps
  • beeswax wraps instead of plastic wrap
  • collecting and repurposing bread tags
  • recycling yoghurt pots and baby food plastic pouches
  • a shared vegetable and herb garden.

The power of free play

We're strong believers in the power of free play and play-based learning. That's why you won't see many 'typical' toys or structured activities when you walk into our spaces. We set tamariki up with real, everyday objects and natural play materials, and leave it up to them to choose what interests them. We help them to develop their imaginations and explore the environment around them. Children love moving and being physically active is an important part of everyday life. With this in mind, we actively encourage children to move freely on their own, as their capabilities and development allow. Tamariki are also given daily opportunities to practice climbing, balancing, kicking, throwing and jumping.

Nurturing relationships

We value respectful relationships. At our centres, our kaiako (teachers) recognise and respond to tamariki as individuals. We value their mana (self-esteem) and their sense of belonging. Kaiako also encourage tuākana / teina (older person/younger person) relationships. We teach social skills by supporting and guiding tamariki in their learning. We encourage them to be resilient, take risks, understand and express their emotions.

Creating global citizens

In order to succeed in our rapidly changing, and increasingly interconnected world, we teach our tamariki to become global citizens. Global citizenship is the idea that everyone, no matter where they live, is part of a worldwide community and they should respect other cultures and the environment and contribute to wider society. Our curriculum helps tamariki develop essential skills that will support their lifelong learning and promote respect for diversity such as:

  • problem-solving,
  • communication,
  • collaboration and
  • cross-cultural awareness.

Lollipops North Harbour

Nestled in sunny Totara Vale, Lollipops North Harbour offers safe, nurturing and inspiring care for the early years. Spread across three separate buildings, each catering for specific ages and stages of development, we provide everything your little one needs to learn and thrive.

Our caring, dedicated teachers strive to bring out the best in each child, in an environment that’s respectful, engaging and fun. Children are encouraged to explore the outdoors, embrace adventure, and cultivate curiosity, as they progress on their journey to becoming confident and capable learners.

Give your child the greatest gift. Start their learning journey at Lollipops North Harbour.

Our philosophy

Lollipops North Harbour has three separate buildings to cater for different ages and stages. Each centre has a slightly different philosophy, but they all share the same core value of respect. Our Kiwis building (0 to 2.5 years) follows the RIE approach; our Fantails building (2.5 to 3.5 years) works with aspects of the RIE approach as well as the Reggio Approach; while our Kakapos building (3.5 to 5 years) follows the Reggio approach.

Our rooms

Lollipops North Harbour has three separate buildings, specially designed for each age and stage. This means we can deliver safe, nurturing and age appropriate learning experiences for all our children.

Kiwis

Calm and peaceful, this centre is set up for the youngest members of the Lollipops family – from 3 weeks to 2.5 years. Up until the age of one, our children are assigned one core teacher, who takes on the primary care role. We follow the natural rhythms of each child, respecting individual routines and allowing children to grow and learn at their own unhurried pace.

Fantails

This vibrant and engaging centre caters for our toddlers aged from approximately 2.5 to 3.5 years old. Here you’ll find plenty of opportunities for your child to develop their gross and fine motor skills and build confidence through climbing equipment and an environment that supports physical exploratory play. A full core curriculum is offered, and routines include pre-meal mat time, and kai time in which children use real china, and learn to wash their hands, sit at the table and develop self-help skills.

Kakapos

This building is home away from home for our children aged from 3 to 5. Here they are encouraged to be independent and take responsibility for themselves, their belongings and actions – crucial preparation for primary school. Divided into different spaces, our Nest is a hub for dramatic play, science and nature, blocks, books and puzzles, while our Art Studio gives children the opportunity to explore clay, paint, collage and beading. Koru Group is our transition to school room, where children explore all seven areas of the New Zealand primary curriculum. Big emphasis is placed around kai times, with a sit down lunch every day that supports self-help skills, independence and social skills.

Why choose us?

There are a host of reasons why families choose Lollipops North Harbour. Here are just a few of them:

  • Three separate buildings specially designed for different age groups
  • Awesome teachers who love what they do
  • Half and full day options available
  • Ideally located away from noise and traffic
  • Fantastic spacious outdoor areas
  • Abundant vegetable garden
  • Two local parks a short walk away
  • Delicious, nutritious cooked meals provided
  • Currently working towards renewing our Healthy Heart Gold award
  • Individual portfolios and online tool ‘StoryPark’ enable parents, whanau and staff to work together to support development and learning for each child
  • Centre pets including a rabbit, a cockatiel, and three guinea pigs
  • Lots of fun activities including dance and Zumba
  • Close links with Target Road Primary School - we often join their Kapa Haka practices, visit their new entrance classrooms, and get invited to their special events

Our team of dedicated teachers provide the  highest quality care and education,  delivering rich and inspiring learning experiences and environments that bring out the best in every child. Unlock your child’s unique potential.

Windy Ridge Playcentre

Nau mai, haere mai and welcome to Windy Ridge Playcentre

Playcentre is unlike any other early childhood education organisation. At Playcentre, both children and their parents / caregivers attend.

At Playcentre children get the opportunity to learn and explore in a fun and safe environment.

The curiosity and creativity of our tamariki is nurtured in a way that allows them to learn about themselves and their world.

Your child will be given a chance to explore, create, climb, read, sing, experiment, play music, wear costumes, have their face painted (or do it themselves!), garden, do carpentry with real tools, bake and cook, build sandcastles, swing, slide, dance, spend time in nature and get messy.

The activities change every day. Playcentre parents all bring different skills, interests, and cultural backgrounds to add to the rich learning environment.

We welcome families with children aged 0 – 6 years. Mixed age play allows your children to engage with others older and younger than themselves. Pre-schoolers learn how to communicate, share and negotiate with empathy for their younger peers.

At Playcentre, families come together and lifelong friendships are formed.

BestStart Glenfield

At BestStart Glenfield our priority is to recognize and nurture each child so that they may achieve their full potential. This journey starts with our youngest learner at 3 months and extends to school age. BestStart Glenfield takes pride in our strong links between the centre, home, and the wider Glenfield and Bayview community.

Nurture the nature of the child and watch them grow

Our environments are challenging and thoughtfully prepared to support creativity and age appropriate learning. We celebrate diversity and acknowledge that every tamariki brings their own interests, experiences, and strengths to the centre. Our team is passionate about early childhood education and take part in regular professional learning opportunities to continue their own learning to provide our children with the very best education and care.

Te Atawhai and Te Pihinga Rooms are designed for tamariki from 3 months to two years. Our philosophy in our infant’s area takes inspiration from the RIE philosophy, meaning our Kaiako respect our infants and trust that they are natural inventors, explorers, and self-learners. We provide an environment that is strong in respect, belonging and exploration. We follow a primary caregiving approach with the aim of providing a seamless transition for both tamariki and whanau. Each child’s development is captured through beautiful stories which form their individual learning journey. Our environments are beautiful, carefully curated spaces and our sleep area is a star filled wonderland.

Te Puawai Room is an area for tamariki, from 2 to around 3 years to blossom. This area supports tamariki as they grow and develop their communication and social skills. The classroom is designed for open-ended exploration and the development of relationships with kaiako and peers, giving the opportunity for our tamariki to learn with and alongside others. Our teaching approach is very relationship led as we work closely with our tamariki and their whanau to provide meaningful and authentic learning experiences that provoke investigation and problem-solving. Within this year we see our tamariki nurturing so many different skills and getting ready for the years ahead, we feel this is a great time to extend on their self-help skills, nurturing confident and independent tamariki.

Te Whakakaha and Te Tutika Rooms are designed for supporting tamariki 3 years and over. We believe our tamariki are confident and capable learners and we therefore set up our environment to nurture curiosity through loose parts. Loose parts are any objects that can be used and moved around with no set purpose in mind. We foster friendships as tamariki work alongside kaiako who encourage them to grow their skills to be independent and confident in all areas of the curriculum. Our unique Be School Ready initiative has been developed to ensure that tamariki leave our centre as confident, capable learners who are prepared for the next step in their education journey. The tamariki in this area have the opportunity to experience primary school before they start with regular visits to Bayview and Manuka Primary to spend time in the new entrant classroom, library, attend jump jam, and use the playground.

Marlborough Kindergarten

Kia ora and welcome to Marlborough Kindergarten

Welcome to Marlborough Kindergarten!  We have a fun, stimulating environment that empowers children, where their play is valued as meaningful learning.  A caring respectful environment that embraces Aotearoa’s bicultural and our multicultural community.

Marlborough Kindergarten is proud to have achieved Silver Enviroschool status.  We have a strong focus on sustainability concepts.

We support children to build foundations for life-long learning which eases the transition to school.

Our learning philosophy

For the past 110 years, the Auckland Kindergarten Association has been igniting young minds by encouraging them to explore their imaginations through play. For many of us, kindergarten was where we began our life of learning; it was where we started learning skills like sharing, tolerance, patience, respect and self-confidence.

We view children as capable, competent, life-long learners, and our philosophy encourages children to make their own learning choices, problem-solve and observe and explore at their own pace…with support from teachers, parents, wider whānau and their peers. We value the importance of child-initiated, play-based experiences. Our kindergarten teachers nurture your children’s interests and natural curiosity by working alongside them, expanding language and introducing mathematical and science concepts, as well as literacy, digital technology and sustainable practices.

Our centres have gardens and natural outdoor spaces where children can create, explore, be imaginative and expressive. There’s plenty of room to safely run about, being imaginative and physically active. In fact, the natural world is essential to free-range play. AKA encourages each kindergarten community to explore and enrich their diversity and uniqueness. Some have regular excursions into the local community; some are Enviroschool kindergartens that live and breathe sustainable practices; while others engage in long-term research on child interest-based programmes of learning.

As an organisation, we formally acknowledge the dual heritage of Aotearoa / New Zealand, and work to uphold the spirit and intent of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in each kindergarten. We are accessible, secular and welcoming to the wide diversity of tamariki and whānau who attend our centres, and value ongoing partnerships between teaching teams and leadership staff with families and whānau. We value ongoing learning for teachers, parents and whānau, and the sharing of knowledge, skills and attributes is fundamental to achieving the best learning outcomes for children. Teachers and staff can access collegial professional time to ensure that quality practice is enhanced so current theories of learning and development within New Zealand’s world-class Te Whāriki early childhood curriculum are shared and understood.

Children learn

Children in our kindergartens have the opportunity to:

  • Feel confident, develop responsibility and a sense of independence
  • Play meaningfully alongside other children and adults
  • Develop effective communication skills
  • Persevere, problem-solve and take risks

Welcome to Little People

Little People Learning Centres are both located on Auckland’s North Shore.

The centres are Kiwi owned and operated by husband and wife team, Tony and Jodie Hight.

Jodie's story behind the scenes…

“Many moons ago, whilst studying hard to achieve my Diploma in Childcare, I had to come up with a name to call my ‘dream’ centre. After sleepless nights it came to me!

‘LITTLE PEOPLE’…

I believe that too many people treat children as ‘children’ instead of ‘little people’, with little feelings, little minds and little feet…

Just like you and me.

Children deserve the same respect, interactions and love like us. The footprints you will see on our sign symbolizes the path and journey of each individual person. As you can see my ‘dream’ came true. I will now focus my energy on providing a ‘dream’ place for your children to be.

We look forward to spending time with you all on this very special journey at Little People.

It is important that you feel comfortable and secure with the decision you are making, so please feel free to ask us any  questions or spend time with us to ensure that you are happy.

Choosing the Best Educator for Your Child

We stand strong alongside our Educators. We care about them and we’re committed to the work they do, supporting and communicating with them every step of the way. We understand that engaged, fulfilled Educators make for happy families and even happier tamariki who thrive in these small group settings.

Small Group Setting

Our Home Based childcare groups are capped at a maximum of four children under the age of six, including Educators’ own children. This means we can offer each child the individual attention they need to flourish.

The best fit for your whānau values

Our Educators offer a range of different programmes based around their beliefs, values, culture, background and philosophies. Over 90% of our Educators hold a recognised ECE qualification. Some of our Educators are mothers and grandmothers with fantastic life skills, experience and knowledge. We’ll listen to your needs and then offer, where possible, a range of Educators. You will get to choose an Educator that you and your whānau connect with and trust.

Exceeding educational standards

Our philosophy, vision and mission

  • Our Vision– The why – The reason we exist:

To provide a family friendly wrap around support service that enables all tamariki/whanau to learn, grow and thrive in a home-based setting. Investing in cultivating kindness, strong and professional relationships, in all our people to continue growing as lifelong learners

  • Mission Statement – The How -How are we going to achieve the Vision?

We will achieve our Vision through ensuring that every team member is emotionally invested in the well-being of our people including tamariki, whanau, Educators, communities and our Edubase family. Our passion, knowledge and commitment will be the catalyst that enables everyone to learn, thrive and achieve.

  • Philosophy Statement

Edubase is a Home Based Early Childhood Education service that is committed to providing nurturing learning environments where tamariki thrive as individuals through an authentic play-based, natural learning education and care programme, in a home setting.

To enrich the learning of each tamariki we form strong community connections, developing links within the home and the learning environments of our Kaiako. Tamariki learn respect for people, places and things, shaping Aotearoa and developing an appreciation of New Zealand’s dual heritage. We continually strive to develop knowledge and an understanding of the cultural heritages of both partners to Te Tiriti o Waitangi – supporting a holistic approach to learning which is guided by our NZ Early Childhood Curriculum, Te Whāriki.

Educators and Nannies offer comfortable, small group sizes, fostering respectful and reciprocal relationships, promoting tikanga Māori within their practice.

As an Organisation, we pride ourselves on cultivating strong, professional relationships, strengthening capability in all our people to continue growing as lifelong learners.

Edubase celebrates the diversity and uniqueness of each tamaiti, whanau and Kaiako and the gifts they bring. They are taonga, a treasure or gift. All things cultural are affirmed and celebrated, aiming to support children in gaining a positive awareness of their own and other cultures.

Glenfield - Auckland

JeMMa's Home-Based Glenfield

JeMMa’s Home-based Education and Childcare was founded on the belief that early childhood education plays a major role in a child’s ability to develop skills and learn throughout life.

As a kindergarten teacher, Jenny Tyrrell could see that children who had a focus of learning whilst in a home environment appeared better equipped to learn in the future. As well as this, children who were well socialised with other children of different ages appeared to cope better than others.

It was those two key observations which cemented her belief; that a child, learning with other children, in a homebased environment rather than an institutional environment, was the best way to go. And that’s how JeMMa’s started. The name is derived from a combination of the two directors names, Jenny and Martin.

At JeMMa’s we believe that home-based education and care is the next best alternative to learning at home with Mum or Dad

Children who learn in a comfortable home-based environment seem to develop strong problem solving, social and learning skills. Because they are in a comfortable, uncrowded environment children they get the chance to develop and learn at steady pace with all the help they need.

JeMMa’s children receive lots of one-on-one time with their educator, as well as interaction with other children in different age groups. These are two core components in the development of happy, energetic, sharing, respectful, thoughtful, problem solving and fun loving kids.

Our Philosophy

JeMMa’s is a quality privately owned family focused Homebased Education and Childcare Service that is committed to ensuring that all children, parents, whānau and kaiako are welcomed and encouraged to play an active role in promoting positive outcomes for our learners. We are guided and inspired by Te Whāriki our early childhood curriculum which encourages us to appreciate that children come into the world eager to learn and we see this as a privilege where we can work in partnership with children, parents and whānau to empower our learners through responsive engaging environments and experiences where they can reach their highest potential and develop an enthusiasm for ongoing learning.

Building and sustaining quality learning focused relationships with everyone is the essence to who are and what believe is valuable for outcomes for children and their ongoing wellbeing and development. Our nurturing relationships will be underpinned through our Christian values and connection with people within our service and our wider communities.  Our environments will embrace cultural diversity of Aotearoa and our commitment to Te Tiriti O Waitangi will be authentic.

We view all children as unique learners where they will have endless opportunities to learn through play and develop a range of knowledge, skills, and learning dispositions. This will spark children’s independence, urge to lead their own learning, social skills, curiosity, creativity, discovery, ability to express themselves and things that are important to them. Our kaiako will dedicate quality time with our children where they will nurture those in the moment opportunities and offer the guidance, support, and encouragement that our learners need to blossom and thrive.
