Fees

We want to provide the safe, supportive care and education for your child, that you want for them, so we don’t compromise on the service we offer. Our dedicated team want to ensure your whānau receives the highest standard of care for your weekly fee, and this includes:

  • a generous annual leave allowance
  • a nutritious midday meal, prepared fresh at the centre daily – so you won’t need to pack kai
  • healthy mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks to fuel your child’s play and learning
  • our Positive Parenting program – offering tips, advice and support for every family

Knowing that each child is unique, with different needs, we ask you to supply your child’s own bottles, formula and nappies for each day.

Why choose our centre?

Since opening in 2017, our childcare centre has become a trusted name in our local community. We are privileged to care for babies, toddlers and preschool tamariki and can assure parents that we will cherish your child and provide care and learning opportunities to meet your child’s needs, at each age and stage of development. We’re here to ‘Serve with Love’.

Home is where the heart is, and that’s why we work with you to align our service to link home life with centre life. This is one way of ensuring your child will feel relaxed, welcomed and keen to explore our safe, loving learning environments. They’re everything you’d want for your little one - clean, spacious and flowing into their own outdoor play areas. The perfect setting for your child to participate in fun-filled learning that fosters their essential foundation skills.

It is the support we offer whānau, the strong relationships, our open, regular communication and our central, convenient location (close to the CBD and several good primary schools) that make us the natural choice for early childhood care and education in Palmerston North.

  • Convenient location on the UCOL campus grounds

  • We celebrate GUFF’s Day (Grandads, Uncle, Fathers and male Friends Day), opening the centre on a Saturday to show all the cool males in our children’s lives what they learn
  • We celebrate Matariki when our children adorn their wearable art creation on the catwalk for whānau/family and friends
  • Active in community events (e.g. Shorts for Hospice, Loud Shirt Day, Pasifika events, Chinese New Year and Diwali)

Our Rooms

Active Explorers Grey Street has two separate rooms, enabling us to deliver age appropriate experiences for children in a safe and nurturing environment.

Pohutukawa Room

This warm and welcoming space is for our under two year olds and it’s a room full of daily celebrations of milestones and emerging personalities. It’s overflowing with smiles and coos of excitement, rolling, crawling and first steps, and the magic of discovering sand castles and making it to the top of the climbing box. This is a space where whānau/parents feel excited and happy to say ‘see you later’ to their child.

Kauri Room

The Kauri Room is aptly named to illustrate the strong foundational skills and learning that our children gain here. It’s a hum of questions and discussions, negotiations and provocations. The teaching team can be found creating masterpieces with the children in the art area or digging through the undergrowth for bugs to learn about. The mixed age group of 2 to 5 year olds facilitates meaningful learning opportunities for all ages.

Palmerston North - Palmerston North

BestStart Palmerston North

BestStart Palmerston North is located close to the central city with two convenient entrances on Carroll Street and Ngata Street. Since opening in 1989 we have been the centre of choice for literally thousands of families. We're open weekdays from 7.30am to 5.30pm only closing for public holidays.

Experienced teachers - We have very experienced teachers, some of whom have been educating and caring for infants and young children at this centre for over 30 years. Others have been in the team for more than a decade. Our teachers are specialists in various areas of early childhood education to support your child to reach their full potential.

Music Specialists - Music sessions with our professionally trained teachers are fun and we have fantastic resources. Your child will enjoy songs, actions and dance with rhythm and movement. By being part of our music sessions your child will develop mathematical understanding through repetitive patterns, counting and spacial awareness as well as building their fine and gross motor skills. Click here to read more about our music programme.

Artist in Residence - Our specialist shares her skills across the complex so no matter where your child is, they will have the opportunity to enjoy this experience. Awesome art work is created using different mediums and techniques. Art supports early literacy skills and ignites your child’s imagination and creativity.

Foundation Skills - These skills support your child’s fine and gross motor skills and are the beginnings of sport and physical activity, using for example, balance and hand-eye coordination. When children have strong upper body and strong hand and arm muscles, it enables them to concentrate during reading and writing. In other words, these skills support early literacy.

Cultural Group - Our cultural group ignites recognition of all cultures by providing learning and experiences of customs, art, music and food. We recognise the culture of every child and by doing so this we give them a sense of identity and belonging.

Diverse Learners - We have specialist teachers who are post graduate trained in both gifted and talented children and early intervention. Karen MacKay (our Curriculum Manager) is well respected in Early Childhood Education circles and her specific focus is on supporting teachers to provide quality education and care in line with the New Zealand Curriculum. In addition, she ensures that our warm and welcoming environment is vibrant and extends the children’s learning.

Little Monkeys at Home - Westbrook

Our Story

Little Monkeys at Home was born in 2017. Our vision was to establish a small, boutique, company that offered an abundance of support to our Educators. This would be through home visits, playgroups, trips, workshops, resources and gifts of appreciation. We knew that in our teaching practices, we didn’t want to get lost in technology, plastic toys and the latest crazes on the market for our precious pre-schoolers in care. What we did want was to focus on teaching sustainable practices and encouraging our Educators to use resources that are natural or focus on the community around them with their care children to support them in making sense of their world. Growing seasonal produce in the garden, wooden toys made by a local carpenter, creating learning resources out of natural products, bush walks and exploring nature, recognizing and celebrating cultural festivals, making mud pies in the back yard and building forts with blankets on rainy days were all part of what we inspired to create and teach.

Little Monkeys at Home Vision

Little Monkeys at Home, strive to provide quality education and equitable learning opportunities, removing barriers to ensure that each child reaches their potential.

Little Monkeys at Home Values

Our teaching and learning is based around the following values:

  • Child centred
  • Innovative and professional Educators
  • Collaborative relationships
  • Community focused
  • Stimulating environment

Little Monkeys at Home Philosophy

  • At Little Monkeys at Home, we believe that children bring with them prior experience and knowledge and we have been entrusted to build upon each child’s uniqueness.
  • We acknowledge the importance of collaborative relationships between whānau, Kaioko, children, Educators and the wider community and strive to provide an environment where whānau feel informed, supported and a sense of belonging. We value the input and the knowledge that comes from whānau about their children.
  • Little Monkeys at Home is about creating a positive and fun environment that enables children to develop curiosity, confidence, respect, a love of learning and to be creative. We provide learning opportunities based on children’s interest and acknowledge that play based learning is best.
  • We encourage our Educators to provide experiences that foster curiosity in the natural world and a focus on sustainable environmental practises.
  • We at Little Monkeys at Home, provide an environment that is inclusive and equitable where we go the extra mile to support our children, families and our wider community.
  • As Educators we strive to walk alongside the children through their educational journey, contributing our passion, motivation and creativeness along the way.

Little Monkeys at Home
